My knob fell off...

Gear knob detached itself from the stick today. The groove in the top of the stick is full of broken plastic.

I've ordered a ZHP knob instead.

That is all :D
 
Didn't this happen to Jason Plato on his test drive of the MR on fifth gear...?!

Good excuse for ZHP tho : ) Are you getting the illuminated one?
 
No, not the illuminated one as I don't have time to order it from LeatherZ, wait for delivery, realize it's at the post office and they want VAT, import duty and an £8 handling charge, take the shift pattern insert off the old one, etc.
 
OK I have the knob now, and I'm starting to wish I had the illuminated one :)

What's the best way of shipping stuff from LeatherZ to the UK? I don't mind paying the VAT, but Royal Mail/Parcelforce's ridiculous £8 "handling charge" is another matter.

Hey. That happened to me when I was test driving a Zed Roadster 3 years ago at the Dealer. So shocking, then bloody hilarious. The salesman didn't know where to look! The knob fell off towards the back of the car!! Whoosh!!
 
Relieved that's all it is. For a moment there a thoght you might of damaged a Nobel. I love those little cars, almost as much as my Z. :D
 
TBH for a performance car I'd expect the attachment 'twixt knob and shaft to be threaded, or at least to have a retaining grub screw. The knob has a plastic bar, and the shaft has a groove which is narrower at its entrance than the rest of the groove. The whole thing relies on the compliance of the plastic and the fact that the 'prongs' on the shaft will move outwards with enough force applied to them.
 
There is a guy on eBay in Germany who will sell an illuminated zhp all in for £75.

That's what I paid for mine and no need to send him you original.
 
The eBay Germany one uses the red LEDs like the original -- I quite like the idea of amber to match the rest of the dash. Plus it doesn't seem to have the current connector on so a bit of hacking and soldering will be required. It's an option though.

I bought the correct connects from BMW so it's just plug and play once soldered to the knob (I want to be able to return to OEM easily)

TBH I hadn't really noticed the colour difference, but in the ///M there are white dials, orange/red controls anyway.
