My Journey Begins!

In one go you’ve done more performance mods than most have ever done.

Well once the brakes are done I'll have done the brakes and chassis mods. Then I'll look at the drive train for the next lot of work. I'm thinking that I'll add a LSD and then look at letting the engine breath a bit better with a ram air filter, intake manifold, free flowing exhaust and manifold.

Welcome to Coupe ownership.

Nice list of jobs done - it sounds like you plan to have loads of fun in it!

Are you going for the offset (eccentric) lollipop bushes? Might be worth a try if you’re getting a full alignment done. They are a popular mod for the E46 M3 but it would be interesting to hear how they feel with the EPAS on the 3.0si.

Are my brakes going on the roadie or the coupe?

Enjoy brands, the coupe should be fab round there, a mate of mine did a few days on the short circuit 8)

I've deliberately not gone for camber / castor adjustment as to get the benefit I'd have to go adjustable all round. That means rear trailing arms, front mounts etc. Maybe another day if I feel that I need to have more adjustments.

To be fair as long as you have in mind to be on the brakes as hard as possible for as short a time as possible the oem brakes aren't terrible on track. I did a couple of Goodwood days with oe brakes on my car and whilst the pedal did start to go a bit wooden and a bit long, it was still stopping jolly well. And what was with bog standard brembo pads too.

Obviously the 6pots were a lot better but you should still have plenty of fun on the oe stuff until its dead

I don't really have loads to spend, I'm just testing myself after 22 years of travelling round the world at Her Majesty's pleasure! The E85 is still around but will be sold as soon as the e86 is ready. Unfortunately I can't afford to keep both!

That was my thinking. Use up what's on the car and then upgrade. It also means I will really feel. The benefit as I've had my first day with the OEM brakes before upgrading.

Very nice Jon, pretty much same as mine!
Can I ask, did u put those black kidney grills in?...

Nope, it's just as I got it well other tha what the garage has already done.

So the track day was cancelled, the only day of the year we had snow lying on the ground!

Still I got a refund of the booking fee so I'll book another.

She goes to get properly cleaned and ceramic coated in 2 weeks and I have a question reference the headlights. Currently both of them are fogged with the nearside really bad with standing water and the bulb isn't working. Now when it was in the garage they said that they'd need to replace the build and then the xenon control unit at £365 + Vat for the part alone! I'm not sure if just a new bulb will work.

Now when she goes in to get cleaned they're going to respray the bumper so it's coming off. I think, from what I've read, that it's only with the bumper off you can get at the headlights. I have 2 fully working, but a little fogged, headlights on my roadster. So what do I do? Do I get them to take out the headlights and I'll take the time to dry them, fit new bulbs and refit see what happens? Do I take the headlights out of the roadster and fit those to the Coupe? Do I go fully aftermarket?

Any suggestions welcomed.

Having had aftermarket (sonar) headlights twice previously, my advice would be to try to restore the oem ones.

The aftermarket ones I've had weren't bad but they weren't perfect by a long shot, and both suffered from condensation - the second pair I purchased new and spent a fair while making extra sure they were sealed and they still fogged up!

Most of the time I believe the oem ones suffer from the seals getting gunked up and letting by. A proper clean and drying/dehumidifying should sort them out.
