woots - you're head is more switched on than mine was at your age! I'd much have prefered a Z than a headache! lol

Ow ta mate
I cant wait till im 40..wonder what i ll be like
At least if i pay 5k for insurance now...when im 40 and im thinking "hmmm should i get that car with 500bhp...oh insurance is 3000..ahh not so bad is it...i ll have one in blue pleasee" :driving:

Had thought you were mad, but put like that... good effort! Wish I'd have done likewise. Best news is... over the next few years, as your age and NCB goes up your premiums go down = more disposable income = more money to tweak! Those rims maybe. And at the same time you'll have honed your driving skills on a superb rear-drive machine!

Exactlyyyy
Well tbh the plan is to keep my car for two years...by then i ll have 3 yrs NCB hopefully and i ll be 21...then i ll get a car that wont need tweaking...something with an ///M badge
So not sure if i can justify modding this Zed at all...think she is gobbling up enough of my money as it is..
Love it to bits tho

Know what you mean about modding... to be honest I think I'm just thinking about fiddling with mine because I've had it over 3 years and not sure what to do next... and to get back on subject, other than the little things, it's only going to put up the insurance - thankfully it's damn good out of the packet!

Sorry but I cannot comprehend any logic in that whatsoever, no one is saying you have to waste money on drink or a lavish lifestyle but paying 5k to an insurance company just seems madness, just because you can afford it doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
Insurance is basically a necessary evil and touch wood that nothing happens then its basically money lost, no offence meant but your driving around in what is essentially the bottom of the range Z with hardly enough performance to pull the skin of a rice pudding, yet your aspirations are to drive a performance motor? Basically what im trying to say is if you chose a car that would give you the same performance as the z but was in a more sensible insurance bracket e.g. <£1k a year then you could be putting 4k a year towards your dream motor, if you waited 3 years you would have the additional no claims and a fairly healthy 12k deposit to put down.

I think my problem is I see insurance as a waste of money so I would not even comprehend paying anything like that, im currently contemplating buying a new sports bike and the quote of £400 is still irritating me.

End of the day its your car and your money but you’ve got to admit it’s a ludicrous amount of money to waste for the sake of driving a 2.0Z?

It is madness in my eyes too... but then most petrolheads are slightly mad. Look at his picture... that face!!??? He will be rocking up to his aircraft carrier in one of those 5.5 litre V8 SLKs or a 6.0 Monaro before long! :)

You've got to bear in mind his age.. getting ANY car with even a sniff of performace nowadays means you have to pay through the nose. My Sister (20, 0 NCB, 6mnth driving) got quoted over £1500 to drive my 2002 1.6 Zetec Ford Focus, with limited mileage of only 7k..
So, and this is where I agree with woots, if you've got to pay stupid money to drive anything, why not pay stupid money to drive what you WANT to drive?
A Z4 isn't just about going fast - surely. I mean, yes, that's part of it, but having a two-seat, respected, convertible, that looks simply georgues is part of the appeal too (at least it is for me).

At his age, I was spending way more than 5k a year on nights out (beer, fags, entrace fees, etc).. which I have nothing to show for it now, apart from the memories..
What woots will get in three years time is the memories of owning a future classic, as well as memories of all the thrills and enjoyment of owning one at such a young age... for the same price (and without the liver and lung damage :))

(And, I bet his mates pay for his beers too, just for the kudos of pulling up to the club in a sports car, rather than a clapped out Corsa :P)

Just a bit off topic but how are you finding the ZX-6? Iv seen the 2010 colours and the white looks stunning, im seriously tempted to get one in the new year.

it's pretty good.. the midrange is miles better than the r6 or gixxer, plus Kwak have finally sorted out the brakes and I'd say they're probably top of the pile in the 600 range. The frontend's also really good and stable.
Only real downside is that it still likes to try and kill you at any given moment, and does fight a little bit if you chuck it around quickly.

If I didn't hate triumphs as much as I did, I would have gone for one of them.. but as I do, the kwak rode well and looks awesome :)

You won't be dissapointed if you do get one (and the white is excellent!)

Fair play to Woots, it's his money, his life. Personally, I'd want to be driving something a lot more thrilling than a 2.0i Z4 to justify £5k/year but that's just me. The most I ever paid was £950 to insure an Integra Type-R which I hated myself for (the premium, not the car!). I currently pay £320 for my 3.0i SE (34 year old) which is good value. Getting old has one advantage at least...

haha.. being my age kinda sucks. I've been chasing the "lower insurance bracket" for ages.
When I was 21, it moved from 21 to 25.
when I was 25, it moved from 25 to 30.
I bet when I'm 30, it'll move to 35.

lol

I don't know where these mental quotes are coming from but I'm 29, no NCB, live in London and I'm driving an M roadster for £850 fully comp and with £350 xs. Tried Bell? They seem to undercut everyone!

Woots what d you do for a crust mate out of interest? I mean yr clearly not a gigolo or owt like that...is it anything legal?

!Clearly not a gigolo!...should i be offended after that :P

Ahaha yeahh im an aircraft engineer in the navy..
Tbh the reason i can afford a zed is cos i choose to spend my money on that
Ive got half a stake in a house asan investment so only need to save for insurance etc..and i don't really drink much anymore cos ive turned into a fitness obsessed geek. So im not really blowing all of my money?
I duno really...i just find owning a Z4 much more fun than ruining my body getting s**t faced all the time...
:driving:
All legit

Nice one Woots! I wouldn't mind being accused of being a gigolo at my age! Chance would be a fine thing.....LOL

What aircraft you work on then? I was RAF many years ago and cut my teeth at apprentice school on bloody Hunters and Jet Provost would you believe, although eventually let loose on Harriers.

Stick with it mate, its a great life and at your age you can some out relatively young with a nice pension AND a tidy new career!

Exactly...im sure we've all wasted more than 5k on things in the past? I bet everone here who owns a house has lost at least 20k this past year...what use is money just sitting there in a bank account...its all just numbers..means fack all..
Ive got what i want now...i dont want to have to wait till tomorrow..and tbh remarks about it "only being a 2.0" is just ridiculous..
Maybe to you guys who've been driving longer than ive had pubic hair a 2.0 might seem lethargic..but at my age its quite a car..and i dont need 300 bhp to scare myself senseless...you only live once..why live it being sensible? How boring is that word...
Aaahhhhh

I fully agree with Wootsy

What you'll experience aged 20 will be completely different aged 40, even if you are doing exactly the same thing. No way of telling which is better or important. No way of telling if the money spent could have been spent "better". That is for wootsy to decide, and I suspect he'll only know this when he is old and about to meet his maker.

This is why I bought my Zed despite me being a pretty crap driver, and despite knowing the money could be spent more profitably else where. Because no matter how much money I can throw away in, lets say 20 years, my experience of a sport car will different!

Sorry, dont mean to be patronizing but all I wanted to say was each to their own

don't get me wrong tho.. I still hate your guts. :chairfight:
It's just not right for you to have such a good car at your age!
