My insurance just emailed me

To be honest im more worried about this than i am about it being stolen , for one its almost certainly going to mean an increase in premiums because even with the fix the perception is going to be that BMW's are an easy targets , also my insurance will be due in January and I get the impression from my dealer that I shouldnt expect much to happen before the new year , so what am I going to do with a car I cant insure

I too had the e-mail from my insurance co. yesterday (Swiftsure). Just called Stratstone BMW and have booked car in for a 'software update'. Apparently the software is only available for the X5 (or was it the X3?) currently, but will be for my 5 series later in October.

I just hope they don't over-write my re-map and take me back down to 286BHP!

The E85/6 is not affected Andy, only ones with the new style key.
Phew cheers mate(sorry for those that are affected tho)
While the E85/E86 aren't affected, I wonder who'll be first to get a huge premium hike for having a 2006-on BMW :?

I got the same email, and I have an E86...

Best check my junk mail then... Feckers better not try it on with me :x

what is the problem here? am I missing something.?
If it requires an upgrade and it is free, then do it, rather than worrying about the car been stolen and the insurers not paying. surely its better to follow their advice than change to another insurer who thinks it ok for you car to be stolen.
If there is no upgrade available then you have done all you can, Its a phone call to BMW, FFS.
Its like the police telling you to remove the valuables on you seat to prevent them being stolen and then saying I am not doing that, its the police who are in the wrong.
