My First Z4….wow

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the great advice, I think you are all right, the LCi indicators are on the shopping list thats for sure, im going to also change the colour of the alloys gunmetal grey with diamond cut faces, it probably doesn't need it but I might invest in Brembo brake upgrade as well.

Im into detailing my car, so yes machine polishing, and a complete leather deep clean, I might also at some point have the steering wheel re covered, I will also invest in some rats tails….because you just never know do you.

Nick, it’s no secret I’m a dim wit. I’m confused. You list 17 quite sporty cars. You’ve never heard/owned tyre plug kits? For real?

Hi Marcoose

Yeah thats true, never had one either……never really needed one, just used a tow truck to collect me or used the space saver tyre, crazy I guess, we as a family are car fanatics, we have owned 54 cars thats just my wife and I, and not once used a tyre repair kit….thankfully….

Wow. Good for you!

I’ve only used it once, on a friend’s motorbike. All my own punctures were plugged my good samaritans, or beyond the magic of patch kits.

I’ll send a pic of mine. They’re really small, for bikers. I bought them at the local motorbike store. It’s the price for NRFs.

Hi Nick,

Nice looking Zed you’ve got there.

Noticed you also had a black Porsche, is black a pre-requisite or is it just a coincidence?
Only wondered as I’ve got a DeepSea Blue one & just couldn’t have a white or silver car again. The trees at the end of my drive just produce too much sap

Hi Pointed Marlin

I do love Black, but my favourite colours are Blue and Red, Deep Sea Blue sounds stunning, you should share a pic

This is a pic from the autotrader advert back when I purchased in May

Hi Mr Tidy

Wow you remembered Im picking her up tomorrow, fantastic……oh I intend to have a great drive home cant wait, already booked her chassis and suspension specialists, to do a health check of every single bush and components, best in the business and used by Porsche owners up and down the UK, their other biggest customers are you guessed it……BMW…..very small and personal but their knowledge is outstanding……they are called Centre Gravity…..totally awesome…..will get the old girl into BMW main dealer to check the engine, make sure there arnt any nasty surprises……..wouldnt want a Lemon

Pointed Marlin

Oh wow that is so beautiful, love the leather trim to really sets the car off so well.

The N52 engine in the 30i doesn't usually have any major issues. The most common ones are oil leaks from the cam-cover and oil filter housing gaskets but you should be able to see those for yourself.

And I wouldn't go to a main dealer if you can find a good BMW Indy.

Hi Mr Tidy

Thats good to know about N52 engine puts my mind at rest a tad, i was pleasantly surprised how smooth the engine was when I test drove the Z, but its a 6 cylinder BMWs legendary engine, if they cant do that well then I would be worried, I note your in Sandhurst…..at the Academy?

I'm on my 4th N52 now! 2 in E86s, one in an E91 325i and my current one in an E90 330i. The only other issues I've had were 2 electric water pump failures, but no inspection is ever going to help with that - they work until they don't!

Less than a mile from the Academy - which may be why I can't get DAB signals, TV channels via an aerial and my mobile is sketchy!

Hi Guys

Well that was a nice drive, things I did notice however, tram lining, and yes the run flats need throwing in the trash, and she needs sharper handling, sports mode seems to go a little flat mid range, BUT…….OMG I love this car……such a timeless car, interior still does not look dated at all…hand on heart I will say this car is very underrated…..instantaneous love warts and all, need to find a good diagnostic kit similar VCDS to keep on top of concerns…….what do you guys use for diagnosing the car?

Hello Nick just catching up with this thread and have to say your Z4 in black looks marvellous but than I am biased somewhat. As others have recommended a detail with ceramic coating and LCI indicators would do wonders for the car. Also some contrast to the wheels wouldn't go amiss. I share with you here a pic of mine 2 years after being ceramic coated and with LCI indicators note that they are colour coded Saphire black. Spahire black really does come out well once polished up. Enjoy your new ride!

That looks lovely, really shows off the design and like what the previous owners done to it

Your car looks good, but I wouldn't have parked next to an SUV!

So far as diagnostics goes there seem to be quite a few options:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=131244

And you're right, run-flats are horrible.

Hi Silverstar and Sars.

Beautiful car Silverstar……just love black.

Definitely up for some LCI indicators, and changing the alloys, tomorrow im going to spend most of the day valeting the interior, cleaning the leather and steering wheel, generally rejuvenating the interior getting rid of old valeting chemicals off the plastics etc, and deep cleaning the steering wheel…….i cant wait
