My first Z4...does this look good value?

Hi guys, a newbie here on the lookout for a car to replace my MX5.
Wondered what you folks thought about this one?

Went to see it today. Externally it was very good - slight scrape on bottom of front bumper and tiny scrape on boot lid which dealer said they would sort. Alloys not so good, kerbed and flaking in parts, but again they said they would be refurbed to look new. Inside, a bit tired and leather on driver's seat had a long scrape on it like a belt buckle had been dragged along it. Dealer said they had a leather guy who can sort things like that.
So I imagine once valeted and everything else sorted it should look okay.
It drove very nice, tho think the smg box might take a week or two to get used to.
Loved the power, especially coming from a 1.8 MX5.
What are servicing costs like?
One big factor for me is the year's BMW warranty.

Any thoughts gratefully received
:)

check the service history carefully.. id personally have loved that box (had they made it on the /M) but an reliable SSG would be a nightmare.

12months AUC warranty on an £11k Z4 3.0 SSG with 42k.. can you get it any cheaper?

Be wary of all those things *actually* being done too.

Welcome

Xenon headlights are important on Z4. Normal halogen bulbs are not powerful in the dark.

Most people swap bulbs (or simply raise them) to improve them by 50%.

However, the Zed in the link has Xenons anyway 8)

It has full BMW service history - three stamps at Liverpool, Warrington and Southport. Not due again for another 12,000 or so. Also new discs and pads and 2 new tyres recently.
Given the fact my MX5 I'm selling needs four new tyres, that's £400 I wouldn't have to shell out, and the part-ex price they've offered me seems reasonable...
Any big bills likely to be coming up in the near future given it's done 42k? Timing belt, that sort of thing?
Thanks
:)

Jono, welcome to the Forum. One would hope that if its from a BMW dealer and with one years BMW warranty you should be fairly bullet proof. Check list in my signature which may assist you in ensuring you get a good deal. Find out who the previous owner was and give them a call - he/she will be the best person to update you on recent history AND tell you what they got for it from the dealer. No timing belt worries as its got a chain driven system. Looks liker a good combination of colours, bodywork and interior and good spec - no GPS though. Several issues are; the potential for roof motor failure and broken rear springs. Worth checking if these have been done or are the originals parts. Non doubt it has run flat tyres if it's from a dealer which many of us have changed over the years to conventional tyres - generally better ride and handling. Good luck

Thanks guys...
Can't help thinking it hadn't been that well looked after. I know it hadn't been prepped yet, but if I'd seen that car in a private sale I'd have walked away.
Yet, surely it can't be that bad if BMW took it in part ex and are selling it? Is it likely to look the dog's danglies once the dealer's sorted things?
If anyone lives/works near Southport and is passing the dealer a second opinion would be much appreciated.

Lots and lots of cars for sale, particularly around that money.

Go & see 3/4, then you'll know yourself what they're worth..

Did you drive it? Lots of people would hate the SSG, considering the Auto is great, & the manual is even better. But If I was in the market for a a £10k 3.0, I'd pay extra for a well serviced SSG with 12m AUC warranty.

IMO You can get much better examples with more options for that money.

BTW, AUC for a year is around £450.

Go with your first reaction - WALK AWAY. As others have said look at others.

Jono - I've just sealed a deal from a BMW dealer on a silver '07 2.0iSE 22k. I did some leg work and got off my bum and went to actually see several. Frankly, they were all damn sexy cars and I wanted to get my cheque book out each time!! I had expected an older higher mileage example for my £, so that, together with a good trade-in against a tattyish T4 estate has left me feeling like I've got a good deal here. I'm happy and have no nagging doubts about the car. It will need new tyres before its next MOT, but the T4 needed 'em too! Clearly as a newbie I know nothing of any value about Z4's, but i do tend to agree with AlanJ above, there will be the right car out there with your name on it, you must consider the responsibility of actually owning the car after the novelty has worn off. Good Luck

Just bought an M so now also have my 53 plate 3.0smg on the drive for sale. Ill be advertising it soon, 34k miles, heated leather, cruise, iPod, cup holders, stubby :), new discs and pads, new wheels and tyres. Totally epic condition 9.5k!

Thanks for all the sound advice guys.
I think I was too eager to listen to the sales guy's patter and too impatient at the fact I've not had a single inquiry about my MX-5, even tho' it's the lowest priced of its kind in the UK on Autotrader :x
Patience is a virtue. It will sell eventually.

Sounds like a beauty. Please PM me when you do put it up for sale as mine may have sold too by then.
