My First ‘Proper’ Road Trip

Just come back from similar except we did 9 countries all the way to Hungary and back. We only had 2 weeks so was a bit too much driving and not enough chilling...and we had a 5yr old in tow so had to do it in a Renault Espace !

I've previously done lots of the mountain passes in a S54 Z3M but one I never did was the Susten pass and OMG!!! If you have to choose one alpine pass to do....MAKE IT THIS ONE! Just incredible and puts all the other ones to shame imho. Definitely forget Stelvio etc.

Also, have you looked at the Euro tunnel instead of the ferry. Was half the price for us and only takes 20mins (once you have finished messing around with all the customs / car park queuing etc).

I've had a look at the Susten pass and unfortunately I'm not going close enough to do it. If this one goes well, I might be able to negotiate a Swiss / Italy trip in a couple of years.

We did think about the Euro tunnel but quite enjoy the ferry...time to relax and have some food. :D

Hi Dan.
You road trip sounds just up our street
The ardech is stunning .
We leave manchester for leon and the comb lavel on the 28th .
Enjoy your road trip buddy :driving:

Sounds like a great trip. Heading south from Reims I can recommend going through the Haut Jura. Beautiful scenery, great roads & very quiet too. The area around Chateau-Chalon is lovely for a stop-over.

Sounds like a cracking trip!

If you can, try and plan your routes so that you can avoid toll roads, there are quite a few in France.

I also visited Circuit du Reims earlier this year as a part of my Germany road trip. From memory Pommery Champagne is based in Reims and should be worth checking out.

What I will say is that you will never really appreciate these cars until you take them for a ‘proper’ road trip as you put it.

Good luck buddy

Btw I recommend Il Mercato as a restaurant in Reims.

Sounds great! Some great drives in the Vercors if you fancy a cheeky early morning detour.

Top tip that MrPT - done some reading and it sounds like some epic roads in the Vecors. I’ve planned our route to do that and the National Park above. Thanks again! 🙏

Thanks for the tips...just going to Chromecast your video now.

Did the Vercors by motorcyle in 2016, very spectacular in places!

Col de la machine will take you to some epic views and great photo opportunities.

I can recommend a hotel for the run in to the Vercors if you need one.

If this works, here's a few Vercors pics (mine), Col de la machine and two from the hotel

The trip has begun! First stop, London for an overnight stop at the families. Got quite a lot packed in the Z and still plenty of room for wine! Also managed a very good MPG to kick things off! 9BE63014-2243-4B39-8057-76609622A518.jpeg

Enjoyed that video, thx! we have not long been back from Adenau (I noticed it on your video) and the ring. Great place. We have had Euro trips the past 19 years or so on the bikes, and been all over Europe, but the roads in Germany, especially the Black Forest, take some beating...especially for bikes. I’m taking the missus over for the first time next May, albeit in the Zed, and finishing in Como. She may not like the ring....
