My first proper detail!

After I had a professional exterior valet on my car shortly after I bought it last month, I thought, I could do that! So I did!

After a bit of research and some help from forum members, I went out this morning and took advantage of halfords 3 for 2 cleaning deals, and got 155 worth of product for £120.

I first washed with maguiars gold wash and shampoo and then dried, and used maguiars alloy cleaner. I then used the maguiars clay kit and oh my goodness, I was shocked with the difference to the paint to touch and the crap that came off on the clay! I then polished with autoglym polish resin, buffed off, then used autoglym high definition wax, and buffed. Lastly slicked off the tyres with maguiars endurance gel.

I can definitely see the benefits of one of those machines to speed things up, as after 4.5hrs, I was bloody knackered! I'm off again tomorrow, so tomorrow's job is to go back to halfords and get some product to clean the inside. Majorly can see the befefits of buying quality product rather than just a bottle of crap car shampoo.

I was quite happy with my efforts for my first time, and with practice I'm sure the quality of work will get better still and quicker. I was particularly happy that even though there was only a couple of light scratches on the car, they have now disappeared too, and literally looks like it just came off the production line!

Havnt got it wet yet to see for beading, but I took a couple of pics on my phone.
Thanks for all the help. :D

Cheers guys, I'm guessing something like the maguiars machine would speed things up, but also give a better shine? Maybe something later for later on in the year....

I could definitely see it becoming more of an obsession, and more expensive if not careful!

I don't want to go crazy with mods but I am likening the idea of some new alloys at some point, and I'm getting the impression that eibach springs are the ones to go for?? I'm also guessing 30mm drop is standard for them? But I also want to make my exhaust sound a teenie bit better, it's a 2.5i se spec, but I want a little more gurgle, and pops! :D

I didn't think it'd be as rewarding as it was! Was really chuffed, and enjoyed doing it. Even though I was knackered afterwards!

Yes i've got the Megs machine but some of the others are equally as good I think. The Dual Action (DA) machines like the Megs are much better than polishing by hand and carry little risk of damaging the paint but the Rotary machines are the best but I think you have to be more careful with them.

Thanks!

I'm still shocked by the difference with the clay. Never noticed the roughness on any car before, makes such a difference! And the dirt that came off with it!

Good Job Martyn... looks fanastic
I like to think of all the effort and hours I put in almost every weekend doing something or other on my Z as a way of also keeping fit... much more rewarding than going down the gym :D
