My first M- one MONTH in…

Have a local garage set to do the shells, for a reasonable price all things considered

Couple of little other things to do but that’s half the fun!!

Appreciate your insight bud!

I'm just glad you love it TBF - I'd have felt bad if you didn't!

Make sure the garage check the engine mounts while they've got the cross-member off. My mounts were in a terrible state.

I eyeballed them today and I think they are a little frilly

I’m not planning going to go the vibra technics route, oem lemforder should suffice

Ross at RBM did mine and he didn't recommend the Vibra Technics for a road car so I have OEM.

Fantastic, they are such characterful and wonderful cars.

I had the roof down for the first time this year the other way, what a wonderful experience with that S54 bellowing away. Love it!

Day by day I’m getting more confident with the S54. I was nervous of it in advance with a perception it’s a fickle, sensitive motor with issues but the more I work on it the more confident I become that it’s a much better M54

Today I needed to change both throttle position sensors to remedy a mid range hesitation that (at worst) put the car in limp mode. Reading that this could be the two sensors I decided to give it a go and get the intake body off

Both sensors were very simple to change. With the intake off (which had virtually every connector loose) I can see it’s much easier to do things like starter motor changes etc

Everything back together- a very simple job all in all

With sensors changed the rev range is smooth and much better

Another day and I fall in love with it a little more

Next week it goes for rod bearings and diff seal- will be interested to see in what condition they come out like

Next time you are in there, its worth cleaning the buildup on the throttle intakes and running some brake cleaner through the ICV.

Cracking car the Z4M, either variant. I've just done a full nut and bolt restoration on my Z4MR, including clutch, flywheel, suspension, brakes, driveshafts, rebuilt differential, trailing arms, wishbone, tierods, subframe bushes, ball joints, bearings etc. Opted for the bilstein b12 pro kit and pleasantly surprised how well it rides. Clearly helped with replacing all suspension bits too.
Here's some pics...

Updated for over a months ownership

The love affair continues

Rod bearings done- I wouldn’t say they were the worst but there was definite signs of wear and copper (51k remember)

The only other job identified was that the rear ball joints were well past their best- so they are getting replaced with lemforder own this weekend

I’ve fitted cup holders, cruise and rear sub speakers, and a gruppe m intake which makes the need for the sub speakers fairly pointless. I’d say that alone has reduced my mpg further just to hear that sound!

Aside from that I’ve been driving it as much as o can to get my moneys worth from the road tax I pay- and enjoying every mile

Is that to preempt Martin’s comment?

They are addictive, done more miles in the M in a few months than I did with the si in almost two years.

He keeps mentioning the m tax

We all know it’s just envy…
