My first BMW

Firstly hello all,

I've just taken the plunge and defected from one German brand another. Having loved the look of the Z4 since it came out I've finally managed to get my hands on one.

There's some pics in the gallery section for you all to have a look at, pretty normal looking silver one though :o Here's a couple of tasters

My first impressions are mostly good, had a lovely run the other Sunday with the roof down, I was sat there thinking this is why I bought the car, girlfriend moaned about her hair but hey, that's the least of my worries.

The quality of the stereo is my main gripe at the moment, the sound quality is pants. Will be asking for some advice on this later.

The only other thing I find letting the car down at the moment is the exhaust, I think a nice stainless backbox would look much much better.

So what are the recommended mods on the Z4 then, I'm not into spending thousands just looking to enhance the overall package.

That's all for now.

Cheers

Ian :D

Nice motor, welcome. With the exhaust try putting on the BMW tips- they arent clear in my pics but ull get the idea.

Cheers for that Paddy, I can just about make them out in 1 of the pics. Is is just a case of screwing them on? I'm gonna head to the dealers to price up cup holder retro-fit so I'll price them to.

I've had a read through the cup holder how to and it seems to be a bit of love or hate but after a 5 hour drive at the weekend I need somewhere to put a drink!!

Cup holders are an easy retro fit- 2 min job when i put mine in and they are great like u say on a long run! Not sure about tips as mine were on when i bought car but think they are screw on- fairly pricy items as far as I know but well worth it!

I'm liking your pic on the beach, I tried a similar thing at Weston Super Mare the other Saturday, nearly took the bottom of the car off so was soon out of there!

Are there any specific upgrades that people do with the 2.2?

Welcome to the forum

Stubby Aerial (do a search for mangowalk...) is a great inexpensive mod which enhances things so much :D

Thanks Gannet, had a look on their website, definately a nice cheap mod.

Just one question, how badly is the radio reception affected? I rarely use the cd preferring to have radio 1 in the background for my sins! :o

I only notice poor reception very occasionally and not enough to make me put the longer one back on. There are some other threads on it around here somewhere. Seems some people have more problems than others based on different aerials etc...

For the money it's worth a try, at least it's not a big job to swap back. Ebay here we come!!

Whats the general consensus of opinion as to which Mangowalk stubby suits the Z4 best? :(

Hi & Welcome

The music system is an easy after market upgrade,

You can buy chrome exhaust tips to cover the xisting from BMW.

Welcome to the forum.

I changed to a stubby aerial but then i never listen to the radio so i wouldn't know what the reception is like :P

Welcome good colour choice  stubby is a nice cheap mod and not only looks better but saves your eyes another cheap mod is a carbon look plate surround on the rear gives a nice clean look and the black looks nice against the silver.

Another i have done is to remove the chrome badges gives a cleaner look.

Going to get an M steering wheel to go with my M.Sport seats

Another cheap mod http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7947
