My E89's first MOT today!!

Not uncommon, mine was replaced after it conked on a test drive! lol High precision german engineering my arse.

To be fair I had an issue like this not long after I had the car. I thought it had been changed once?

No 2?!!! :?

Well, got the Z4 back last night. Big difference in starting now! Hardly turns over and it fires!! Also seems quicker on pick-up! On reflection I don't think that fuel pump has been right since I've had the car seeing how it pulls now!

Dealer said it was a sensor that was changed before, not the fuel pump so this is the first time it's been changed. Dealer also doing the "we don't know of any national problems with the high pressure fuel pump because if there was, BMW would have done a re-call" at which point I showed them the article on BMWBLOG about the recall in America at which point I was told "they have different parts over there!"

Basically I had to pay the £100 extended warranty access to get the car back, even though I argued that I tried to book the car in when it was in warranty and I had reported this fault in November last year, at which point the dealer couldn't find anything wrong! :(

They are contacting BMW about this, but I'm not hopeful of getting the £100 back!

Still. car goes well now so the Audi may have to wait a bit longer! :P

I would suggest anyone who's warranty is running out soon to take the offer of the extended warranty (god knows how much I would have paid if I hadn't!) and also get that high pressure fuel pump checked out (although until it shows a fault code, I guess they can't detect it!).

Just noticed I posted this in Jan on here:

Although still a con, cos the problem was there before, you can at least feel good that for your £100 you can actually feel an improvement in the car, which is better than paying for work that makes no difference.

Glad you got it sorted, still £100 would smart my eyes, not exactly your fault that they were to busy to look at it before the warranty expired :poke:

Go get em

Methinks a bit of billybullshit from their service advisor ref US cars having different parts. They'll have as few different parts as possible,it makes manufacturing easier and cheaper. I work with motor dealers and the stories they come out with make my blood boil. :x

billybullshit

I have heard that phrase before, but I just read it and it made me chuckle!!!!

You can check realoem.com for US and European parts fairly easily so may be able to prove them wrong on that!

So, I have been driving my Z more than normal since having the fuel pump fixed and I must admit I don't think that fuel pump has been 100% since I've had the car! It seems a lot more "lively" on the throttle now and starts instantly the button is pressed!
Went for a few 100 miles blast last Sunday and the traction control light did a lot more flickering out of bends than it used to! :P

Still waiting on the dealer to see if I get any of the £100 back mind!
