My e89 making funny noises after major dealer service

Hi all

Had my sDrive 23i go through a major service and MOT (including oil change, spark plug change, brake fluid change and air con recharge )

This was around 3 weeks ago, passed mot no issues

Now the day I picked her up she did not seem 100 percent right, in hindsight should have driven the car straight back but it was near closing time.

The car has a slight vibration at around 30-40mph. Almost like going through rumble strips in the motorway .. there’s also this constant squeaking sound that I’m trying to record on my phone to tell my dealer ..

No vibration while Idle so maybe discounting the new spark plugs

It’s gotten worst over the weeks and will contact the dealer but just worried I’d be fobbed off etc .. the car is under the Bmw extended warranty

I’m just thinking with the servicing they did can’t have affected any of the suspension or steering can they ? I’m expecting a long drawn to and fro with my dealers alas !

If it’s making a constant squeaking sound since the service I’d be taking it straight back, the fact you’ve left it weeks will make it easier for the dealer to brush it off, give them a go and hope for the best.

Just on phone on hold with them now, stupid I know should have done this straight away ... but feel so stressed dealing with dealers if not the warranty I’d go for a specialist ! :D

Let us know how you get on

Will do, they will charge £100 just to look at it (18th May) refundable if it’s a result of the service... have me bent over that’s for sure ... at least with the ext warranty it will be no more than £250 (excess)

I don't know wether they take the wheels off I was just saying it for safety reasons

Maybe dinged a wheel and bent something during a test drive.
Wasn't that long ago someones car ended up with damage done to a wheel and suspension after being in a garage.

Will check the wheel.. sounds like the noise is from front, looks like they take the wheels off for brake fluid change ? Maybe they haven’t tightened up the wheel or calipers 🤔

Unlikely and wouldn’t make the rumble strip vibration but I wonder if it’s been run without the oil cap on. This has happened to a member on here and also my dad who owns a 23i. It made a huge mess under the bonnet and oil could easily have got onto the belt - that would explain squeaking.

I’d loosen the wheel nuts and do them up again to the correct torque making sure you do them up in a star pattern.

Disc dust guard might have been knocked and come loose as they pulled the wheel off.

Thanks for the tip, I’ve gone and pulled a fast one and called BMW emergency saying I’m worried about any brake or wheel related issues driving my car any further, they are sending a technician tonight :)

No, part of the extended warranty.. they are pretty good, last time I had a 3 series they fixed a fault and only charged me the part.. dealer would have added diagnostic charge parts and labour ...

Good news, my Z4 had to be fixed by another Bmw dealer (the original dealer was booked up)

They retorqued all the wheels and the split rim bolts too, no quibble they said they will send the bill to the other dealer ! :)

No more rattles or rumbling !
