My Cyprus photo thread

Continuing my random Cypriot photo thread.

When you're too bored to cook a big family lunch you order in! Big tray in middle is pork souvlaki (skewered meat cooked over charcoal), the one to its left is charcoal grilled beef liver with balsamic vinegar and honey, above those are aubergine and local squash fritters and around you'll see pitta and sourdough bread and various veggies. Yummy.

A type of gecko. The ones we usually have are the Mediterranean house gecko, which are a lot paler in colour.

This is about as much of a persistent freshwater wetland we can get in the Paphos area. It was the beginning of the Diarizos river but it now drains in the Arminou reservoir a few km downstream. The river is mostly dry now unless the reservoir overflows or something... There are loads of roach in there which we call "kokkinofteres", or "red-wings" (literal translation, we actually mean their fins, which are red coloured) and very occasionally you can find a trout or two, usually rainbow trout which sometime swim upstream from the reservoir. Loads of freshwater crab too.

This is the beach right nearby the famous "Aphrodite's Baths" area. The sea there is very warm and usually crystal clear, very good for snorkelling.

In Kouklia village, the tavernas in the village square lay out their tables on the square like this during the summer, they sometimes bring bands to play music for all of them to enjoy.

If you do decide to visit book flights early as on high season it's crazy expensive! Also you must contact me for local info and tips!

This thread is reminding me of a lovely few days I had in Larnaca with my parents this summer. Lots of great food, weather, beaches and some of the friendliest and welcoming people

This was taken last Sunday. 9th of November and sun still shining, t-shirts still being worn. :D

View from a hill-top cafe a couple of days ago, that's the lighthouse out far in the background and the harbour and castle would be seen were it not for that grove of trees on the left of the lighthouse.

About a year later maybe time for a few more photos? :P (let me know if the pics show up OK!)

One of my favorite local cafes called Ananas 8bit. They organise movie nights, live jazz bands etc. They were showing the original The Day the Earth Stood Still. A few months ago this.

Always wondered if there was a way to drive over to Cyprus - last time I heard you could go via a car ferry from Greece but that was stopped. Would love to go back to visit family and hit up some of the epic driving roads in the Τρόοδος (Troodos) mountains. Have family in Paphos too.

Thanks mate. Come to think of it we haven't had stifado in ages! Hmmm....

You can't drive per-se, people I know that have sent cars to/from Greece sent them in containers and fly there to pick them up! There are roll on-roll off ships from the UK (it's how I imported mine) but with no passenger service... It's hardly convenient or cost-effective sadly...

The square at Arsos village near Limassol. Most villages have nice restored squares with coffee shops, taverns etc and it's why it's so nice to rent a car and just explore. Distances are so small compared to what most other Europeans are used to.

Yes this is what i've been told a while ago - you can ship a car but its not open to the public :( How much did it cost you to send your car over if you dont mind me asking?
