Hi all, thought i'd post a few pics up of the chess set i've been working on for the last couple of years. All pieces are metal and hand painted and assembled by me, also, the board is home made and i've developed a custom set of rules for the additional row of pieces you can see on the board. anyway, heres a few pics, including one of the pieces after assembly with just primer on it before being painted. :D

That's impressive! I can appreciate the work that's gone into those pieces, are they cast from moulds?

I like chess, I'm rubbish at it but I have "Chess Titans" downloaded on my computer and play most days - only level 3 though sadly, I just don't seem to have the predictive thought process required to be any good at it. My lad was a handy little player when he was young though, he played in competitions and won a few. He should have stuck at it but other things came his way - motorbikes and cars etc.

Can you give us a quick run down of what the additional pieces do? Looks interesting.

Yes the pieces are cast from a mould originally, but as much as i'd love to share all the addon rules and different movement of the new pieces the whole 'idea' is under review by a couple of specialist games companies, so what you see here is actually a prototype for the time being. :D

Ah! I understand, but keep us posted when things are finalised and you're able to tell us - it looks fascinating does that

Now that looks impressive - I appreciate you mentioned that there will be a different set of rules for this particular game compared to 'standard' Chess - is that why the board doesn't have alternating light/dark squares?

Thanks everyone for looking and the kind words, i really did'nt know what sort of response i'd get on here but i'm blown away with the comments. thank you. Unfortunately, one of the two companies that showed mild interest has decided its not for them due to manufacturing costs and wanted to change various things about the prototype (i was flexible with some of the details, up to a point!.) so i'm now left with just one interested party and if i'm honest, i'm not gonna hold my breath!. If for whatever reason things go pear shaped i've decided to start a blog and make the rules freeware so everyone can enjoy them, the game is just too good to not be out there! (maybe i'm biased.. :D ). I actually built 3 boards before settling on this one, i tried the light and dark squares approach but A: i could'nt get it to look like i wanted it, and B: the way some of the pieces move just did'nt suit a two tone board. Not sure if anyone's noticed but the board is actually shaped like a cross. this was a conscious decision as later on i wanted to develop a set of rules for a fast paced four player version, which would be amazing i think (if not a little chaotic! :D ).

Oddly enough. I had a completely glass board with glass pieces, but i never learnt how to play. Great board btw.
