Hi

Thought I would have a go at Carbon fibre vinyl wrapping, heres what happened...

After looking online decided to go with the 3M carbon vinyl from...
http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/Departments/carbon-fibre-vinyl.aspx

Instead of wrapping the panel from my Z (just in case it all went wrong/looked  ) I got a used one from eBay.

Decided to go for the gear lever surround, this is what turned up (seen better days).

Took the panel apart including all the electrics and gear indicator sticker. There was some surface damage which I fixed with some wet n dry sand paper.

Panel was now ready for some vinyl! Having never done this before I watched some videos on youtube for a little guidance. After some burnt finger, vinyl stretching and :headbang: later, this was the result...

Replaced all the electrics and sticker and swopped with the original panel from my car. Must admit it does look good  IMO.

Good job, but where are the pics with it fitted to the car?
I did this to all of the grey-painted interior trim pieces in my 320d, it looks great and seems pretty durable too.

That looks really good. Must have been very fiddly to make all those curves work.

To be honest, once you get the vinyl hot it moulds to pretty much any shape! Still fiddly tho :?

Fitted it just before going out so didn't get a pic and was dark when I got home. WIll take one tomorrow and post it up. Looks good in the car so may do the window switches next.

i wrapped the tips of my bumper with 3m, picked up the heat gun, then put it down and went inside and got a hairdryer...

i suspect a heat gun would've made it easier but i didn't fancy heating the paint up too much...

My 261 auto horses disagree with your 194 manual ones regarding that point

PM me if your interested in selling the original part, anyone know if it will also fit SMG?

Thanks

I'm going to keep the original just incase I want to put it back at some point/sell the car.
