I wondered the other day when you were pleading poverty over tv costs how long before the search for a new car would resume. I think you will need deep pockets to run this one. Not sure how that colour would impact on resale either. But have to say I always enjoy reading about progress followed by the outcome and subsequent sale. I know you will keep us all informed. 👍

How on earth can that be a classic it’s newer than my Z4. Nice though :thumbsup:
 
Fair enough the rear end isn't great, but I honesty don't think it deserves all the hate. I like the overall shape and colour, although not for £16k personally

Won't say it too loud, but I think it looks better than any post 2016 z4 :fuelfire:
 
If nothing else this thread has livened the forum up a bit, cos it's been as dull as ditch water recently! :thumbsup: :P
 
I don't think you need telling how to suck eggs Mr P but if a XKR is to be the next one i would sit tight at least 6 weeks & watch how long similar privately owned cars take to sell . I would suspect its a lengthy process .
Any car on £630 ved & a severe thirst for fuel = small pool of buyers .
Never having looked at any used Jag as a possible for me i was genuinely staggered at the ask price with your chosen one - a 57plate 57k 4.2 V8 at £17k :o i'm not going into what that can buy in todays car market , as you point out each to their own but i did have a brief look on AT & similar ( more appealing paint + trim combo ) cars albeit with more miles can be had for sub £10k

it also cemented why i would never consider a Jaguar of any kind , in my eyes they don't age well in terms of styling , no doubt modern + appealing at the time but fastforward you have a car that actually looks its age :cry:

The one in the bottom link,Silver at 13.5k, looks decent,and better choice/nicer colour than the funny Light mint green colour of the one Pondy put p.
 
Well it's the car I would go for if I was letting the Z4 go. Got real presence, big V8, bit of wood (I like wood as well). I think they look great and getting to the bottom of the depreciation curve by No I would have thought. The early ones are in the low tax bracket as well.
 
The problem with Jag XKs is rust, good rust free examples are not easy to find and are expensive. You will need to be good with DIY repairs but plenty of S/H spares available, most have gearbox problems at 70k+, check for a clunk changing from forward to reverse. I’ve had a couple and originally wanted another, then saw a Z4, tried it, a lot of fun for little cash.
 
Stay strong Ponders and this desire to buy British will soon pass. Then buy a 911.

I didn't see that one TBH as I put a mileage cap on the search of 60k! :headbang:
I have a major issue with mileage so the cars I look at are always at the higher end of the price bracket, unfortunately.
Not keen on silver cars (too common and boring) but colour is not the most important factor, the quality of the car is.

I am in no rush, so will keep an eye on the market.

I would love a 997, but too rich for my blood and I'm getting too old to appreciate one.
The bike will be back together in a week or two, so I'll put a picture in the bike thread then. :thumbsup:
 
Maslow…. Man is a perpetually wanting animal (or words to that effect).

Human nature suggests we always want more, and are never satisfied with what we have. This isn’t a reflection on you Andrew, I see this trait in myself… it’s why I’m closing in on hitting double figures on Z4’s owned, and why I’ve owned so many cars in my lifetime.

I’m confident that whatever you buy will likely stay for a while and then depart…. But some cars are easier to sell than others, so as has been mentioned already…. If you go down this road be prepared for either a long wait or a financial hit to offload :thumbsup:

It’s all jealously, my dads got an XK9 same colour inside and out and he loves it to bits 🥰…..

He is 80 in May though 😳🫣.

It’s not so much hostility, more tribal, we all like our own brand, but there are limits, I’ve had Jags for many years including a E Type and to be honest I’ve never had a bad one, but all the steel bodied Jags do rust. This time I wanted a convertible fun car for weekends, problem is a decent XK convertible is £15k - £20k plus, which I can’t justify so I spent £5k on a nice E85, and had a couple of holidays as well.

Just think of the afternoon naps you can have in it, only spoiled by putting petrol in it every 3 miles and to wave your fist at those pesky young 'uns calling you a senile old :wkr: when the dribbles running from the corner of your mouth. Small price to pay for such undisputed luxurious dullness.... :thumbsup: :driving:

saw a bright red XK150 parked up in Durham last week with the top down. Even my wife said Wow.

Modesty aside, She knows class when she sees it :roll:
