My car Broke during HC07

I started my car after it sat for about 4 hours and the tach was bouncing from 500 to 1000 RPM I tried to take off and I had no power. After trying to restart the car 3 times I pushed the SOS button and figured maybe they would have to tow it to Centrury BMW, the nearest dealer to HC.
While waiting for roadside service to come on the line I tried to start the car one more time, this time it started and the warning lites on the dash went away except the "service engine soon" I hung up with roadside service and drove to Centrury.
They told me they might be able to look at it tomorrow(Sat) and were closed Monday so it would probably be Tuesday. Well I don't have to say how mad I was at missing homecomming in my car. And this the day before my cars one year birthday!!

So after some complaining the manager agreed that they would at least check it out for me that day.

After waiting for another hour the tech came and told me he thought the throttle motor is going out but he didn't have one to replace it. So I could either leave it there and they would get the part Wed. or I could drive the car home and it might not do it again.

They also Remapped the accelerator program, What ever that means, I can say the car is running better than it has in a while, but it's still not 100%.

The tech also told me he had never come across this problem before.

In the first 20 Minutes I was back at the hotel I had 2 other people tell me they had the same problems with their car. But none were M engines one a 2.5 and one a 3.0.

I hope you never have car troubles during homecomming, Centrury is the worst dealership I have ever been to. And they had the nerve to ask me to give them all 5's on the customer survey!!

Has anyone here had similar engine problems??

Hey 2Zero,
Why don't you put up a quick notice in the dealership feedback area  Have you got the problem sorted out yet? Enjoy the rest of your travels!

hahaha.... I saw pics of that hat; no wonder

- Some dealers can be a PITA sometimes, hope it didn't spoil HC07 too much.

Hey I had on my most conservative hat that day. I mean it was a business trip so I wore the beret, No tassels.

And no it didn't ruin my HC but it did raise my Blood Pressure for a while. The whole, might be able to look at it Tuesday and not loan me a car.

Not had similar problems with my 03 2.5 but I've had the same answer about the complete Power Steering failure after THEY updated the software and I told them it was their fault, got the obvious reaction of total and complete denial that they had caused any problem then told,

"that has never happened to any other Z4 anywhere in the world!" :headbang:

This must be part of the training courses they go on. There's probably a list of standard bullshit answers somewhere that is put out to all BMW technicians / mechanics etc.

2 Zero,

Just got mine back from the dealer and the throttle valve was the fix for mine. They found 8 errors pointing to the throttle valve. I also recieved a remap as well. Now I have the car we fell in love with again.

Glad to hear that you finally got it fixed! :) I am sure that it was a pain driving back with that issue. Have my reservation for next year, look forward to see you both again!

What's the specific problem?

I recall another dealer going through hell to fix a headlight...
It turned out to be in the connecting wire harness behind the light.

Water was getting past the wheel well liner & into the harness causing a short.

I believe that I was the 2.5 you referred to here. Yep, I had mine fixed just a bit over a year ago. I think this year was the year for car problems as I had a rough idle when I was on my way home. Turns out to be that parts just plum wear out after a while and they need to be replaced. I got home just fine and then went to an independent BMW mechanic. Probably saved me at least $1k. Who knew that you have to replace the spark plugs sometime after 100k? Of course, I had otehr things done tht were needed and he also found a vacuum leak from this faulty piece attached to the engine. While on the subject, he said its a good idea to change the trans oil about every 60k or so. He won't even touch mine now cause he is afraid that it will cause problems. he heard a clunk from drive to reverse, even though I have never heard it.
