My campervan! (aka putting Z4 seats to good use) - update p2

Loving Pic 9 as well, the zed looking out of the garage somewhat confused as to why the camera is not pointing in his direction

Looking good. Will be interesting to see it when the conversion is done... :D

Will they make the front seats adjustable so that you can turn them to face backwards (as they had done on some of the conversions on the webiste)? Would be pretty practical! :poke:

Looks great Ally, maybe you can help me out too. My sister is getting married in a couple of months, her blokey is a top bloke and big into kite / windsurf and has always wanted a camper. So I've been tasked with sourcing either a T4 or T5 which has already been done, lowered, wheels, colour coded but with standard van back to carry his gear, apparently it's going to be her wedding present to him. I have a budget of £10k, I've scoured pistonheads / autotrader and there's a few that fit the bill. What should I be looking at engine wise? Is there anywhere that specialise in these? Any help most appreciated.

Well, here it is…

A full 2 years after buying our bog-standard VW T5 panel van, we collected it at the end of August from Jerba Campervans after a full camper conversion. Absolutely over the moon with it, couldn’t be happier. We’ve already taken a couple of weeks holidaying around the Scottish west coast and had a couple of weekends away at the 7 Stanes MTBing centres in the south of Scotland. Planning lots more weekends away, and next summer will be a repeat of our 3-week Euro tour :)

Interior:
- SCA elevating roof (with extra bed in roof)
- RIB 130cm seat/bed with 3 proper seatbelts
- VW privacy tint glass all round (with fake rearmost driver’s side)
- big fridge!
- diesel-fired blown-air heater
- 3-gas burner/sink combined unit
- individual front seats – actually the old seats from my BMW Z4 after I upgraded to heated versions in the car :)
- swivel plates on both seats and a safe in the base of the passenger one
- full electrics hook-up with 2 additional leisure batteries and split-charge system
- 40 litre fresh water tank
- 10” subwoofer built into custom enclosure behind driver with amp in cupboard, plus extra rear speakers

Exterior:
- Vanstyle front splitter
- front and rear bumpers plus mirror covers colour-coded
- Steelworks side bars, powdercoated black
- standard 16” steel wheels painted black lol
- H&R -40mm lowering springs
- foglights wired into full/main beam
- Atera rear 3-bike rack
- Reimo Multirail

Further plans:
- fit the 17” T32 steel wheels I already have (once I’ve bought tyres)
- build a removable platform to secure bikes for transporting inside van
- buy a sun awning (we already have a Khyam driveaway awning but a sun shade would be good for short stops)
- make some fabric skirts for around bottom of front seats to hide the metalwork

And just a few photos on location...

Enroute to Skye:

Those from the z4-forum Skye trip should recognise this location (or tree):

Portree, Skye - This gives an idea of just how long it is: it's 5.3m (exc bike rack) hence doesn't quite fit a normal-sized parking space:

Mossyard again - can't get any closer to the sea:

And just to prove the weather wasn't all spectacular, this was the usual (it was only dry/sunny for 1 day while we were up north):

Did yo know you have a stalker?
Stalker?! You've lost me... :?

Jimmypop - 14 nights stayed in van out of 31 since collecting it, that's not bad going I reckon :)

Great result Ally. Use it only for good - don't want reports of you holding up any meets

Off to PH classifieds now...

Bump this up for lacroupade to read :)

We've not had a weekend away in the 'van since the end of November - combination of the snow in December and work meant we've not had a chance so far. Although I've got winter tyres fitted, the prospect of getting stuck in some random car park overnight didn't appeal!

Big plans for 2011 though: lots of weekends away, a couple of overseas trips, and a 3-week/3k mile tour of Germany/France/Italy planned for the summer. Even tempted to bring it to the Islay trip but I reckon I'd miss the Z4 on those roads...
