I've been thinking about the Transporter as an interim solution for the wifes fledgling interiors/shop business...any buying tips, stuff to watch out for?

VW Transporters are quite expensive for what they are - comparative vans (Transhits, Sprinters, Vivaros, Renault Masters, etc) are better value for money, but generally the VW T5's hold their value better but probably not enough to offset the initial price difference. Certainly better to drive and generally better built and nicer to be in. Pre-2010 engines are 1.9 88ps, 1.9 102ps, 2.5 130ps, 2.5 174ps. The 2.5 130ps is the best all-rounder for performance and only 1-2mpg worse than the 1.9's due to having 6-speed gearbox. 2.5 174ps is a rocketship!
Not really any major issues known of. Can be issues with air-flow meters (but £60 for genuine VW replacement), occasional van has issues with sticky turbo vanes (mine might be suffering this). Not generally any issues with rust. You'll find more complete info than I know on http://www.brick-yard.co.uk but we can be a bit cliquey on there

Been there, won't do it again! I used cliosport for years but it got progressively worse to the stage I stopped using it a couple of years ago. I didn't really get on well on the renaultsport forum after publicly criticising Renault UK on there in a big way (they deserved it though).

Great place if you want to fit a subwoofer in the boot though :roll:
