Was selling my 2.2 SE e85 and trading up to a 30i e89
It was with the best of intentions that I sold my little zed and bought a fancy newer model instead but after a few weeks ownership i can't say it was a good move.
In comparison the e89 is soulless, has no character and is just a bit boring really. If I had the option to get my old car back I totally would.
My advice - don't do it!

I suppose we are all different Greg.
A lot of it comes down to what you want from the car.
if like me, its a weekend toy, practicality is not that important, but it has to make you smile when you drive it.
The thing that always confirms I have made the right choice is, do I always look back at it whenever I park it.
obviously peoples opinions of it help make you feel good.
All my neighbours at work comment that it looks more aggressive than the 85 I had before.
so looks wise I'm happy.
comfort wise its better, no arguments.
almost certainly the m sport seats.
performance wise, its obviously better, as have gone from 177hp to 260hp app.
Also having gone from auto, which I did enjoy, manual has made it more involving.
the big draw for me was the folding hard top making it two cars in one.
when the roof is up, its a coupe, and when its down, it has the same benefits as the 85.
the 85 roof was always a pain to keep looking clean as it lived on my drive, and yes was always cleaned and protected, but annoyed the hell out of me in the winter as it collected grime and green marks.
the 89 may not have the chuck about driveability of the 85, but for me it is a step in the direction I wanted to go.
I don't have any regrets, nor can I think of any negatives, regarding areas that I miss from the 85.
both fun cars, but the 89 was a positive step for me.
hope you grow to love it as much as I love mine
