My 2nd E89

So as previously reported I acquired my 9th Zed last month which is the 7th Z4 and 2nd E89 I've owned - this one was built in June 2013 and first registered in July 2013.

It's the 20i M Sport variant in Sapphire Black with black leather interior - I'm the 3rd owner and on collection it had done just under 46k miles.

It didn't have the upgraded stereo and electrical adjustable seats I would have liked but it did have the idrive system, heated seats, PDC and folding outside mirrors.

Although the 325's had recently been refurbished (in black which would not be my first choice) they were unfortunately still on the Potenza runflats.

DIY jobs to date have inuded the usual initial deep clean and I have treated all the rubber trim with Gummi Pfledge.

On removing the wheels I noticed both front tyres had significant wear on the inside 1/3rd so I took it to the mechanic yesterday for a general once over - as suspected and despite it seemingly driving OK prior he said the tracking was well out so he sorted that and advised that both front tyres should be replaced ASAP.

So I guess that is the perfect excuse to ditch the runflats and I now just need to decide which tyres to go for

That’s a great Zed pilgrimage that you are on

Do you get bored with each one or just fancy a change ? :tumbleweed:

You need to add some colour into your life on the next one ..

Be interested in your commentary/ views on each of them…

Are you going to re-map this baby?

Enjoy :driving:

To be honest I just can't seem to resist a deal - as for colour I do have my eye on a Turkish Green Z3

In terms of commentary I reckon you could make a case for every variant from the Z4MC to the M44 - I guess that's the beauty of the Zed range something for everyone.

Yes I've read a lot about remapping the N20 so it's definitely on the to do list - most seem to suggest it's a no brainer but I have had some suggest that going down that route just means you've bought the wrong car.

I'm not sure about that given how few 28is there seem to be. Buying an 18i/2-i and a remap works out much cheaper!

Anyway it's good to see we still have some serial Z4 owners on here - good luck getting it how you want it.

If you buy an E89 Z4 20i and remap it to match the performance of a 28i, that's pretty close to being a no brainer as long as you use a reputable tuner etc.

If you buy an E85 Z4 2.0i and try to remap it to match the performance of a 3.0si then you have indeed bought the wrong car.

Car went in today for new boots - Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all round.

And before you ask - yes I did think I was driving a different car on the way home.

Seriously I couldn't believe the difference they made over the Bridgestone Potenza Runflats :driving:

Funny you should say that - I was on the phone earlier with SLT Remapping who are based in Sheffield. They offer an engine health check and remap process for £250 or £300 with a dyno so probably going to get it booked in. They did advise getting the spark plugs replaced ahead of the booking though with the car on just over 46k miles apparently 70% of the BMW's they have remapped have needed the plugs replacing.

Making the engine work 50% harder places greater demands on plugs, coils, HPFP and injectors.

On the N20 fresh plugs is a no brainier…plus fresh oil in the engine and gearbox pls

HPFP could sag but cross that bridge if you get to it…ditto coils..injectors unlikely..
