My 23i has become a bit sluggish

Hi guys, I have had my 23i for coming up to 3 years. Always serviced by main dealer. Over the last few months I have noticed it doesn't seem as responsive as it used to be, and is a bit sluggish.
I had a new coil pack fitted after it started having an uneven idle. This has fixed the idle which is now perfect, but the car still doesn't feel like it did when I first bought it.
Any recommendations for a tune up?

Chuck the full set of coil packs and spark plugs at it. That'll improve throttle response no end and doesn't cost much.

Take back to garage.

Very useful
Well, so far the OP's been told to change his coils & plugs, clean his vanos solenoids and check his air filter. Taking his car back to the garage that always services it might just be the most efficient solution. So, take your sarcasm and can it.

 I suspect the OP has already thought of that ...maybe you should stick to run flats and tyre pressure

I suspect the OP was going for suggestions on possible causes so he can return to the dealership with an informed opinion of what work might need carrying out.
Personally, I find it extremely useful when my customers can give me as much information regarding the fault's on their machines as possible as it allows me to pass that on to employees, eliminate certain problems and carry out a repair far more efficiently.

As the car is now eight years old and has recently had one coil pack fail, it'd suggest the others aren't in much better condition which would contribute largely to a slow throttle response, hence my post earlier.

I understand. However, three well-meant suggestions - but all different and from a distance - don't make the "informed opinion" the garage that's serviced and worked on the car should be able to produce.

I thought i was being clever, bought some after market ebay vanos solenoids, thought it might makes things a little better being new units. It actually made things worse. So i put the old one's back on and all normal.
I keep them in the boot, just in case.

My car just before 75k i replaced the coils and plugs and did make a slight difference.

How did it make things worse....I guess the least you would expect is it to be the same....

Do you think it was because they were "cheapies"?

When fitted the engine just felt a bit flat, when the originals were put back on it all went back to normal.
If it ain't broke, don't try to improve it. Although much more success replacing coils and plugs.
