My 16th Birthday Present - Lots of pics

Cheers guys, forgot, I also changed the brake fluid the other week. £7 and a couple of hours work (taking it slow :P).

However, don't think I can reset the counter without the OBD tool, correct?
 
Ok guys, have now cleaned the leather up! Used the Gliptone stuff. Really impressed with the result. The scuff kit has worked a treat with perfect colour match without the use of the extra toners. The leather generally looks a bit brighter. Will judge tomorrow morning whether it feels softer :)

Also gave all the interior trim a good going over with Poorboys Natural Look Dressing. Put it all on last night and the difference was astounding. Had to rush a bit though as it was getting dark. Got back in the car this morning and thought, wow it's shiny in here! Another buff over with a clean microfibre and the shine has gone, leaving nice dark coloured plastic.

Being able to put the roof down to clean the interior makes life so much easier :)

Seems to look a lot fresher. The lighting isn't quite the same so hard to make a direct comparison.

The driver side seat bolster wasn't in too bad nick beforehand, but looks a lot tidyer after the scuff kit.

There was a small nick on the driver side door card. The scuffmaster kit sorted it right out :)

Note the seats are all the way forward and back to make them easier to clean; I don't actually drive like that! :P

Also got some metal polish and some wire wool and a microfibre and cleaned up the tailpipe tips a bit. Shiny :) You'll have to excuse the dirt on the outside as I spent all the time cleaning the inside :D

So, I can definately vouch for the Gliptone stuff, and the Poorboys Natural Look Dressing!
 
Managed to solve an issue that arose: When driving around there was a knocking noise that sounded as if it was coming from inside the dash. Using all the wonderful info on this forum, I tightened up the bolts on the braces in the engine bay to 35 N m (I think they're supposed to be 41 N m but I took the conservative option :P). One of the bolts at least had about 1/8 turn before reaching the torque setting. Had a quick drive and it has fixed the problem. Lovely!

Also, finally got around to putting the new headlight washer jet cover on after painting it in my bedroom :P Saved thirty quid on what BMW asked to get it painted and it looks great :)

Nice work on the interior; looks like new.
Those wheels are going to be a bit of work if all of them are that bad, it looks as if the previous owner only drove behibnd a salt gritter and enertained themselves donuting on shingle beaches....
 
Ha Georgia indeed! Well the guy I got them from only had them on the car for a month after he bought it, then swapped them out :P I can see why!

Nothing a few powertools and some elbow grease can't sort out :P


And Jonny, I'm on a bit more of a budget than you :D Mainly just sorting the car out, fixing all the issues etc.

Think i'll take the stubby route at some point soon (but which one!?), and as for the de-ginger, I walked back to the car today after work and thought hey, I quite like the contrast of the black and ginger, so it's staying! :)


As for the wheel colour, I'm not sure really. Possibly polish and lacquer the basket and then gunmetal the stars perhaps? Not particularly sure!

You can get them in most supermarkets too tbh. They are basically a mildly abrasive sponge. Wet it and rub away for 30 seconds and they'll look much better :) Finish with a bit of back to black or dressing of some sort, but tbh, the sponge does most of the work.
 
I had indeed seen it! Great list! Will be keeping an eye out on it! They're great looking cars and worth all the love and attention you can give them! :D
 
Interesting wheel refurb project for a black car... I also have a black car with 108's and was wondering whether to get them powder coated in gunmetal...
 
lol, if I want to, I can put black rims on, but that wouldn't be very considerate. And erm... in january some guy (from essex I think) said he would get black CSL's, but in february he said he would take gunmetal. More recently he said hyperblack... So I guess I'm not the only one changing my mind :D

gunmetal is getting to me :-)
