Good Luck, I just voted for 11.5k
I assume the value may be better when the sun comes out!

Hardtop is not in the deal :)

I'd probably suggest that's a good idea, you'll get more for it on eBay than it'll add to the value of the cars sale - I think :)

For reference I purchased the car in my sig for £11,200 back in November. My car has more mileage at 55k but is in excellent condition inside and out, one lady owner from new and had 15k to it's next service. Based on that and the cars viewed at the time I'd guess with a private sale you're looking at around 10k.

Good luck with the sale and enjoy the new one! :)

Perfect condition is also clearly misleading and inaccurate.

I'm sure it has it's little niggles here and there...

Dave

Err sorry, but it has NO dints or scratches and has never had any bodywork attention.

I have only used the Sport button about 3 or 4 times, i'm age 65 and drive it at the same speed as I do my daughters Fiesta, I really do look after my cars.

My description is "clearly misleading and inaccurate" have you seen my car close up? If I'm wrong please elucidate! :)

Kryters

I just get angry when people say perfect condition, when it clearly won't be perfect. It will have wear/tear appropriate for it's age/mileage, despite being looked after.

As for spec, I don't think it matters on older cars. Most buyers won't actually give a toss when they start looking imo. I thought I needed xenons and carver and all that. In the end the spec didn't really matter. A 3.0i is already a nice enough spec, and for most buyers at the age of these cars now, they are after the car, not the toys as much.
Nice to have, but not essential as they would seem to be to buyers paying £20k+ imho anyway :)

Good luck with selling it ;)

*Completely* disagree with that, it's the spec that sells an older car as the difference between an un-spec'd and a fully-loaded one is negligible (1k on a 10k car).

It's *especially* important to have a decent spec when there's lot of cars for sale, I spent about 3 weeks looking and went to see 4 or 5 cars with very similar specs in that time. I could have probably seen 10 or 15 cars if I'd not been after a specific spec or hadn't been bothered about the things I was after.

Kinda have to agree with this, i was VERY picky when it came to spec levels. Cant live without my Carver/Sat Nav/Bluetooth now :) I priced up the options on my car at £9500 (Parkers.co.uk - Everything except ///M Sport Seats). Considering it was only £500 more than the basic spec models, it was an absolute no-brainer :)

And then i realised i had Extended Leather too!! Yummy :D

And I have to disagree with you, I have sold many 4-6 year old BM cars and the difference I have found on a fully spec car and one with a smaller spec is £300-400 on sale, given you would have spent an extra £4-5K on the higher spec car I can live with a loss on resale of £300'ish

I have spoken to quite a few dealers in my time and they all agree, the fastest way to lose money on a BM is to go for a high spec, because come sale time you will get only a very small fraction of the extra cost of the higher spec :)

We're talking at cross purposes.

The original poster is looking for a valuation for a second hand car that he is selling, you're talking about the amount of money you *lose* when purchasing a fully spec'd new car. Those are entirely seperate points.

When selling a second hand vehicle of the age we're talking ('04) the spec of the car is paramount to selling it.

I totally agree that you're not going to get the money back that you spent on the car when purchasing it new, but I think that goes without saying and is part of the depreciation you have to live with if you purchase a new car. You're paying extra for the privilege of having the benefit of the extras for the period of time you have the car.

:)

I have to admit that it will be a bit of a waste though, but I would not be happy driving round in a 2.5, (nothing wrong with that car though) you only live once and if you are well able to afford it why not? :)

Can't argue with that! :D

Mind you, you will take a big hit on that come re-sale!

Kryton was the original poster!

Oh yeah, Doh!

Well I guess what I'm saying then is that I'm not criticising your decision to have a fully spec'd car when purchasing new, I'm just disagreeing with the comment that the spec isn't relevant when you come to sell the car.

Looks like a nice model but just seen that it is the 2 litre version. I am looking at the 3 litre one as I am coming down from the 4 litre M3.

I hope you get a good price for it mate.

4.0l M3!! Why?? :o
