Must make an effort this summer and get my old Westfield on the road again. The Zed is comfy and nippy but this is raw fly-in-the teeth fun

Hasn't turned a wheel in maybe 2 or 3 years...its one of those cars where you go for a drive thinking "ill take it steady...no daft driving" but within 200 yards you can't help but go bonkers

I bought something similar after giving up biking.....wife saw it/Sat in it,all no problem.
We then took a trip up to Ullapool for a birthday night out and it rained....A LOT....SWMBO was for taking the bus home, she felt it was "too dangerous" what with the condensation on the inside "windows" and the lack of height then the A9 wasn't particularly enjoyable.
Great summer car though but in reality summer in Scotland is not to be relied upon for dry weather so it went to a new home.....and fairly easily..to Skye of all places!!
I'll add a photo from the iPad later but get stuck into your one and enjoy the summer months out in it

 when I finished building it in 2002 I didn't bother with a windscreen. Got caught out quite a few times in rain and (once) in snow. As you say they're quite busy in the wet especially on Avon CR500'S
The thing that's nice though is the ability to just get through traffic at will and because of the lightness (mine weighed 580kg) there's no momentum so loosing the arse end isn't a problem even at speed. I'm sure it'll be quite a shock to drive it again

I had a Westy too but found it dangerous. Not me but other road users. People just don't see you and pull out in front of you etc.. No ABS etc so you end up driving too defensively to enjoy it., but they are great fun.

Here's my 7 clone,a Tiger super 7
2.0 zetec with 45 webers run by a decent management system and all other mod cons........a heater

I stopped using mine on the road because a British Racing Green car with such a small frontal area is near invisible on country roads. It's now just a track car.

Ive had numerous Caterfields and all were epic fun on twisty B roads where i live -spoils you for any other convertible sports car actually in terms of handling .
Safely wise my only brush was being hit full in the nose cone by a pheasant which then hit the screen [full screen not an aero thankfully] and then the roll bar and left as road kill -gave me a real fright i can tell you
Have to say i did feel a bit naked on dual carriageways and Mways next to big trucks and nightime driving was also a bit scary
My last Caterham HPC Evo had a full roll cage which made it feel much safer but a total pain to get in and out of so i ended up rmeoving it and going back to the ordinary std rear FIA bar
Alas my back and other joints precludes me from getting another -otherwise would get like a shot

I had a westy all specced up - had a test drive and loved it - I spent an age looking at the adds - then somebody side swiped us when we were in my wife's A4.
At that stage she (my wife) said that as she would have been injured if we had been in a Westfield, she wouldn't go in it!

That's when we bought a Z4 - she says they are a bit stronger than a cigar tube!
( I still have a fancy for one!)

Had a test in a huyabusa powered one....oh boy did that impress

Have you any idea what the power / weight is ??
My Zetec powered car is 580 kg in normal everyday use with fuel etc but I was told that the Huyabusa engine and gearbox weigh the same as just my gearbox so i should imagine its going to be no more than 480kg. Not sure but a Busa power output must be around 180bhp so around 375bhp/ton. We did a track day once at Brands Hatch on the full GP circuit with a friend in his Vauxhall-engined Caterham which was pushing out some 240 bhp. This friend could drive this car well and we were passing a lot of the other Caterhams on the circuit....apart from a Honda Blackbird powered one that left us for dead

A snap of my old Westy, 2 litre zetec, twin 45's etc 156bhp at the wheels (Dynod) 600kg :) 08020028.JPG

Myself and a couple of friends hired a Caterham 620R at Spa for 2 days last year. I found it virtually impossible to drive. I rarely got out of 3rd gear. One of my friends races an R400 (finished 3rd in the series last year so pretty decent), he got to grips with it pretty quick. I passangered with him, it was a very strange experience. When you were going you never felt like you were going stupidly fast until you saw (and shot past) another car. We were flying by all sorts of supercars as if they were parked up.

I'd like a caterthing of some sort but as another resident of Scotland it would never be out the garage. I even have trouble getting use out of a convertible on the occasions that i've owned one.

I assume the 620R is 620 bhp/ton so pretty mental. Was that running the mountune duratec?
