I've copied 4000 MP3 files onto a 32Gb usb stick .

I plug this into the armrest usb socket and the car reads them all, however when I use the same stick in my 335, it doesn't seem to read them all.infact it seems to read fewer and fewer at each time I apply the stick !

Am I missing something?

Your 335 :poke: have you let Mrs K know this?

How strange. I would have thought it would work the same. I assume it's not removing them from the USB onto an internal hard drive, like how you can copy them from the glove box in he E89?

I'd ask Mikes mate but he won't have a rinky dink and neither will his Mrs and both have new 3 series. I'm sure someone will have the answer on here

Oops  yes it's Mrs K's car

I'm sure it read most of them first time and when I put more files on it seems to have read fewer and fewer each time. It now says 500 files :(

I recently copied my music collection from one e89 to another, using the export import routine. That worked fine but you do have to use the usb in the glove box not the centre console. Did you export, or just copy the files? Mine was around 9gb without a problem.

maybe tye number of fikes is just too large. It woukd take a good 30-40 mins to read them.

I've got about 4000 tunes in MP3 format I a 32gb Usb stick and it plays In the arm rest socket I the zed ok - ie it plays all tracks - I copied it , one drive directly to another and they both read 17.3gb so they both have the 4000 tunes .
The zed reads them but the 3 shows its playing track X/500

Hi

Well the file format must be ok .. normally fat32 as both cars recognise the device (I use wav or wmp lossless for artwork)

Just out of interest are all the files using the same MP3 compression when ripped ? for example 192kbs or 320kbs for example .. as some cars will not recognised the lower compression format

just a thought .. also have you ripped all the files just to the USB device or have you put into manageable files like .. playlist 1 .. playlist 2 .. etc etc

let me know

The usb was formatted fat 32 and the files approx 4000 were not in play lists. just a list of mp3 files.

The zed (2010) plays them but the 335 now show 1414 files on the index page but when playing only shows its playing file X/500

On the split screen options I've asked for random play.

The stick I've previously used in the zed does this so I suppose i should go and try iy back in the zed!

Ive now copied directly from iTunes using the iMac - Previously this gave me some grief by putting spotlight files files into the mix!
This can be fixed by using the following method:-

Drag the track from iTunes to the Usb stick - no play lists just drag the tracks
Open "Terminal" (in Applications/Utilities)
1 Enter: dot_clean
2 Press the spacebar
3 Drag the flash drive from the Desktop into the "Terminal" window.
4 Press enter.

The ._ spotlight files will have been deleted an the iDrive in the car seems to organise it all - Don't expect it to do it quickly tho!

This method worked for me - Im no expert - I got this from the internet last year and I don't take any credit for the method and don't want to be called a plagiarist!
Top marks to the fella who came up with the method - The "Experts" in the Apple shop didn't have a clue :D
