I've been using ML for servicing on my 5 series for a few years now and I always enjoy it. They're always friendly, there are some great cars to look at while you wait, there's unlimited tea and a huge pile of magazines to read.

Most recently I purchased by Z4 MC from them and both the service and prep on the car were fantastic. They are not the cheapest but I do feel that they're good value.

Here's a link to their site.

NB. I saw some negative posts elsewhere on the net about ML that date back a few years, it's worth noting that the ownership has changed since then.

They have some lovely stock there, but can't help but think a lot of it is overpriced?

They are undoubtedly top of the market, but the quality of the cars (at least the ones I've seen over the years) reflects the prices. They don't seem to have any trouble selling cars (they always seem to be busy) so I guess it works for them.

Thing is when buying a high performance car they take a bit of the worry away from you as a specialist its worth paying a little extra. You always get what you pay for

The service is worth it. Although I dont have first hand experience if I wasnt so far away I would probably take my car there.

Very thorough when I took my E24 to them for a full inspection a few years ago. Some of their pricing can be quite steep but as above very friendly and accommodating.

Been going a good few years, and I can't say I'm sorry to see the back of the Halse family.

The only reasons I won't be using them again is that I've got someone I trust and will stick with them, and the fact that the new owner came onto the forums 'demanding' we remove any negative posts about the company. Most of us told him to get lost as the posts were about the original owners and it'd be up to him to balance any negative ones with glowing positive ones - which would show up chronologically and allow potential customers to see how the business had improved.

I used ML for a pre-purchase inspection and found them very thorough - and easy to deal with.

You're right, some people seem to have had a jaundiced view of them but then you have to go by your own experience...

They are local to me but have always been put of using them due to negative comments. I know somebody on here had an issue with them. The one time i did call them they were only a few quid cheaper than my local dealer.

I like the fact that places such as ML exist. Specialists with a real passion for what they do and sell. Since ownership changes I think they've turned a corner and would be a first choice if in the market for a well serviced, high quality, low mile example.

Yes, I'd pay a little extra but the support and peace of mind would be worth it; especially if I was buying another M or CSL where that knowledge is paramount.

Dropped by there about a year ago just to look at an M1 they had and ended up having tea and a great chat about Bimmers with one of the staff there. No pressure, no sales talk just car banter.

I visited ML last Saturday for them to fit my Eibachs and have my wheels aligned.

I was very impressed with the service and prices. Reasonable prices and very knowledgeable guys, giving me a lot of confidence. They really know their ///M cars and I fully plan to use them for all future work on my car.

Great place to visit as well, so fantastic cars hanging around and dropping in throughout my visit. The road outside is an orchestra of screaming straight sixes and rumbling V8's.

I must have missed you by a week, they had two M1s in while I was there and a lovely E30 M3.

Couldn't figure out the coffee machine though, had to google for the instructions as I was too embarrassed to ask! :-)

haha fair enough.

Yeh both M1's were there for my visit too, beautiful cars but I prefer the E30 M3, £85k for an E30 is strong money though. Love the E9 3.0 CSL also

Yeah, £85k is too much I think. Still, makes Merc 190E Cosworths look good value.

It does, but they're horribly ugly. To be fair £85k is for a mint sport evo version (Evo III effectively). A standard E30 M3 can be had for £20-25k and an Evo II £35-45k.

Over the past couple of years I have bough an E31 (840) and an E61 (M5) from ML. In the first case I found the car from a private seller and had ML purchase it for me, set it straight and I bought it off them. I am also using them for work on my E46 after they quoted me half what the local Barons dealership has quoted. Whenver I deal with them I receive fantastic service (and I am rather picky) and I get to drive one of the cars on the forecourt. So I have actually found that service, knowledge and prices at ML are all better than they are elsewhere. They are not local to me but I'm happy to drive to them for the reasons outlined above. HTH,

Federica

They've gone off the boil recently. I asked for a quote for brakes (discs and pads all round) and the quote came in as 'new pads all round £545' when I asked if this included the discs (should at that price) nobody replied to my email. Called up and was told they will call back and didn't. Went elsewhere after that.

That is rather unlike them. I know they had a change of front of house staff recently but that should still not justify lack of responsiveness. If you consider going back you should ask to speak to Stewart or Dan. There you go, my 2 cents.

I've not heard anything bad about them since they changed ownership (from the Halse brothers).

It was the previous owners who frequently rubbed people up the wrong way, and which made them a bit marmite.

Sometimes they'd bend over backwards to help you out, other times they'd ignore calls from potential buyers/customers, and you'd arrange a visit/test drive (from 200-300 miles away) and the car would be at the back of the lot with 2 punctures and not suitable for a test drive by a long way. There were even some rumours of cars being bought privately via them to be exported and the receiving customer getting a restoration job instead of the excellent condition car they were charged for.

As mmm-five pointed out, there were quite a lot of 'ups and downs' spoken of with the previous brothers but since the change of ownership, Dan has really strived to move this company forward and I believe ML to be a highly trustworthy and reliable specialist. Having taken a couple of great trips down there with StevenH on top of my mother purchasing a B3s Touring from them, I can say with great confidence that they are an incredibly knowledgeable outfit with an immense passion for Bm's. It is a pleasure to see the plethora of M's and rare models they have either visiting or for sale and I personally would now use them solely for any BMW I owned.
