Multifunction steering buttons lighted?

Hello all!!!
Just a quick question: are the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel supposed to light when you turn on the car lights?

I have just retrofitted the multifunction kit and it seems that although my car is a 5/2005 2.0 ,which shouldnt need to, i will have to add the retrofit cable which connects to the light switch center because that is propably where the light comes from!!!
