Muffler delete is it too loud?

Depends on how much you value your hearing. Mine has a sports muffler that is not loud at all, and is great with the top down. However with the top up it drones going up hills. I wouldn't delete the muffler unless you want to piss off the neighbours and attract the attention of the local constabulary.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that it might get the attention of local police here in California.

Yes, absolutely.
It does make your car sound an awful lot faster and a lot more noticeabble, so a mixed blessing. Especially if you get burned by a Tesla from the lights!
My current car had a back box delete when I bought it, and I found I daren't drive anyway in town traffic with anything other than the lightest throttle, and avoiding lift-off overun at any cost. Just embarrasing!
Now have a modified box fitted and am happy with it.

But then, if I was the real life Omega Man...

All depends on your own personal preference. I have deleted the backbox and I enjoy it. Sure it's loud and on the motorway it can drone, but then I just turn the music up a little louder.
The fun is when you really nail the loud pedal and you get the noise, then the pops and bangs on lift off. Tunnels are awesome!! Plus you have the m54 engine, backbox delete sounds better on that (again.....personal preference)

To provide the other half of the experience - for me it was a massive mistake (3.0si coupe), if I could have reversed the mod immediately after installing mine I would have. As it was I had to wait 2 weeks until I could get an exhaust company to weld the old back box back on. It was droney, too loud, and just completely at odds with the image of the car.

In my opinion anyway!

I'm in the US but on the east coast.

If you're in California, I wouldn't worry too much about it since every person there seems to own a loud straight piped exotic car :P

My issue is, feeling embarrassed when I arrive or leave my house and my car lets everybody in my neighborhood know when I'm doing so. I would feel like a POS if I arrived at my house at 3AM and I have a backbox deleted car LOL

I've heard a facelift model with the N52 engine that has had a backbox delete and it's louder than I could live with! Although it has since been modified to have 4 tail-pipes which has toned it down a little for some reason.

I think I'd find it wearing if I was doing a longer highway drive, but if it's all hustling around back-roads it may be OK.

If you do go for it I'd hang on to the muffler just in case!

Muffler delete is loud but it’s a great sound. The part you may not be able to live with with is the drone on the motorway. Since I’ve had my quad conversion (still without a muffler) done it seems to have got rid of 80% of the drone. It’s a lot more bearable now.

Nick's is the one I have heard and it definitely sounds better since he had the quad conversion.

Mine currently in the process of getting a DLV modified box fitted... Will keep the old one just in case!
That's what I have. I asked for a slightly less full-on version, but it still gives pops on over run and sounds like it should, but not in quite as shouty a way as the 'full-fat' usual version. But both are milies better than a back box delete.
