Got a call after lunch today (number was 00197596428)
Quickly realised that it was the Scam Microsoft Windows Technology one

Had a bit of time so played along for 5-6 mins.
Made him wait while PC allegedly booted up and made out I was seeing what he wanted me to see.

He then asked what the error message stated
I slowly said (as if reading)
'it says .......tell the guy on the phone to p%ss off, this is a scam' :D

He went mad!
Apparently I'm a 'stupid mother f@%cker'

Best was he didn't put the phone down - neither did I, just kept baiting him and laughing
The more I laughed at him the madder he got

Absolutely made my day - couldn't stop smiling about it for the next hour and smirking now writing this
Small things amuse...
I've blocked the number now so no more fun
Googled the number - loads of people have complained about it

My son had a similar call and did the same - then told him he had an Apple PC :)

Well done, I get plagued by this scam regularly. I tend to string them along for a while but eventually just hang up.

I think I'll give your method a try next time :D

Then there are the " have you worked in a noisy environment?" calls.

Answer with sorry, pardon, what etc., they go bonkers !!!

I get that one regularly as well. I recently reported them to the police after a particularly unpleasant gentleman quoted my address to me and threatened to come round for a chat.

Seems to have stopped.

It's shocking how many people get stung by this scam.

My mother was almost ready to pay them for their AV software but then decided to ring me last minute to ask if it was legit.

They had already installed some remote assistance software and were showing my mum all the dodgy sites the laptop had been accessing.

I just told her to disconnect the laptop immediately and hang up. The guy 'from Microsoft' phoned back and started swearing down the phone to her. Lol

Yep, same to my parents in NL several times. Always Indians so they always ask if they can speak to someone who can speak English as they can't understand them

Yeah - I know I was on the ball and had some fun, but a serious issue. My mates mum was nearly conned by this. The only reason she never gave the guy the card details was because she knew there was not enough money on it
Luckily she then rang her son to ask advice.

My mum was conned by a guy asking for card details to renew and send out her 'new Sky viewing card'
She realised her mistake a few minutes later, called Sky to check and cancelled her bank card before any damage done

My wife had one such call. When she told them that she had a husband "in the industry etc etc" she was informed that I was a thief and was stealing all her money!

Question is, how did they know?? ;)

I've had the same call a couple of times -

"My name is John" yeh roight :) - claimed he could see my computer errors, funny that as it was off at the time :D - strung him along for ages, claiming to boot up, check software, errors, etc.

It all fell apart when I asked him to confirm my IP address, more than once, multiple answers - end of call - buzzzzzzzzzzzz -

p.s. my mother / father won't fall for this scam.....

..... they don't have a computer or internet
