Mr12volt - coding cdc?

Total topic detail - but I always keep a tin of the king of mints in my armrest.

Smints - hard to find nowadays, but worth a try if you ever see them :)

I’m hoping the adaptor thing is as good as I think it is (delivered tomorrow). Will share if it’s not the typical bag o shite.

Everyone still happy with the Mr 12volt? I'm just about to pull that trigger - figure that I should order some stuff while sitting here recovering from the Vid-19. Knocks you on your a$$.

Yes use mine everyday  no issues at all.

It's only been a week or so with mine - but so far so good.

Sound quality is spot on (via MOST), no glitches or problems to report.

I'm using google maps for nav, with BBC Sounds for radio (or Tidal) - it has worked within a couple of seconds of me turning the car on wirelessly.

Things I worried about about weren't really mr12volt problems - you will need to think about battery charge on your phone if using for long journeys (easy fix with a 12v USB car adapter - you can;t use the built in car USB for this). The car USB sockets charge really slow (same I think for the mr12volt USB socket if you use it wired) - they might maintain the battery level on your phone, but won;t actively charge it up.

Using a 12v adapter that plugs in to the cig socket, I boosted from 76% to 88% on my battery level on a 20 minute journey, whilst using the carplay nav & tunes. Feels like the right solution to me.

I like to just keep the phone in my pocket on shorter runs, but for multi hour journeys you will see a battery drain of 15 - 20% per hour - so just bear that in mind.

And what about data use - for me it has been tiny. About 6 hours use with nav & radio playing has used less than 0.3Gb of data.

Mat, thanks for the detail. I'm curious about the pairing (bluetooth/wifi) aspects, which appeared complex. I have a Samsung Android 12 phone... when you get in the car, do you have to manually pair up every time or after the first setup it takes care of itself without a bunch of work?

My use case is to have Android auto functionality for maps(Waze) and music. I'm not the guy that talks to his phone (Siri), but talks through his phone :). I'm not going to be SMS'ing... just answering calls when I must.

Initial connection is straightforward, and once connected it auto-connects every time there after. I'm running a Samsung A52 and it works perfectly, although I am now using the wired connection so it keeps my phone charged, and its out of the way in the centre console.
Oh and the new Android Auto Coolwalk looks good, as mine activated this last weekend
