Mr. VANOS appointment. (Edited)

Finally heard back from Mr. VANOS today. It sounds like an honest mistake made when saving appointment at their end. Apparently went away on holiday and got back today. Now waiting to arrange a new appointment.
I wont go into how much this post and the facebook review have to do with his reponse. Possibly lots. Possibly nothing at all. All i will say is that:
1. we all make a mistake now and again.
2. I stand by the fact that he needs a P. A. to attend the phone, reply to messages /emails and keep his diary! :poke:

I have now removed the facebook page review and amended my original one here.

I’d probably post your feelings / experience once you find out the reasons why he didn’t turn up / was late.

Could be genuine

Take it too your prefered indy

Leave it with them

Pick it up when finished.

Money is spent and you will be happy.

I live about 2 mins from his workshop but after talking to him he just want the guy I wanted to give my money to, just didn't gel with him in spite of his very good reputation. Instead I used a guy in Newcastle that has always been spot on and much cheaper to boot.

Nothing worse than this. Takes 30 secs to send a text if you can’t make an appointment. Hate when people just don’t reply or ignore a message. Generally over here people are decent when it comes to keeping in touch and also supporting people when they need it.

[ref]Keith96[/ref], my thoughts exactly. Clearly the man has more work than he needs, which is annoying for those who get dropped off, but fair enough. What's not fair nor acceptable is dismay. If i treated my customers half as bad i would've been 'shown the door' at my job ages ago.
Another thing that annoys me the most is that I've been pondering to have this work done in my Z4 for a long while. Eventually decide to go ahead and budgeted for it and when it comes to the very day.... nothing. :censored: :censored:

Sounds like that’s what he was trying to do Gaz apart from leave it with him.... :poke:

Haha [ref]john-e89[/ref], let [ref]Z4M-2006[/ref] be! He's probably right. My idea was having Mr. VANOS come to my place and have my s54 vanos and valve clearance checked and worked on if required, which has to be done with a stone cold engine, which is why i couldn't drive anywhere, have all the work done and drive back in one day.
It might come to my nearest indy, which i understand is in Lutterworth.

 I don’t need much excuse to poke Gaz..... :P

Being fair though he shouldn’t really have agreed to do the job if he was too pushed, at least you wouldn’t have waited all day.

Mr Vanos is ok when you can get him to do stuff.
But he is an absolute nightmare, loads of people have been in the same boat with him loads of times.

At least with a trusted indy its a matter of dropping the car off and 2 days later its all done, with a premises to return to should there be any niggles or issues.

Op - have you spoken with Mr Vanos yet?

I'm all for airing grievances but it's extremely premature to do so prior to establishing the reasons behind his lack of communication. If there's a legitimate reason you're going to look a prize pillock, and even if there's not, ranting about his service on a platform where he cannot defend himself is frankly useless.

I wouldn’t say it’s useless. The fact is he didn’t show up for an appointment. I’ve also heard of other issues with mr Vanos similar to this therefore it’s clearly a bit of a trend.

The excuse of ‘I’ve got too much work’ wouldn’t really sit well with me. Shouldn’t be a concern of the customer, you should feel as though there’s some sort of care. Anyway, let’s see what the outcome is. At the end of the day it takes 10 seconds to write a text saying ‘I’m having a family emergency, call through the week’

Sorted yet ?

Right! And it was finally sorted today.
Steven from Mr VANOS came today as agreed. I had my S54 VANOS replaced, timing chain (quite a bit of stretch in it! :o ) and timing guide replaced and the valve clearance checked and corrected where required. The shims for the exhaust valves for cylinders 3 and 4 needed replacing.
The engine now runs quieter and smoother and the 'holes' in the torque delivery below 3000rpm have virtually vanished. Very happy with the result. My biggest surprise was the slack in the chain due to the stretch!
Worth mentioning that Steven seems a really nice bloke as well as he knows what he's doing. I did mention as a constructive criticism that not only, but other people have experienced poor communication in the past. He agreed and explained why it happened. I could totally sympathise, but at the end of the day it's a bit of a shame that a nice bloke, who's also good at what he does gets set back by this sort of thing. As I said, it was mentioned.
Overall very, very happy. Money well spent
