Mpg

Before I bought my Z4 i read about the fuel economy, and I got the idea that the mpg would range from about 20 to 40 depending on driving conditions, which seemed reasonable,..and thinking that I could drive conservatively when feeling a bit tight.

I've been checking my mpg over the two weeks I've since I bought the z4 and it always seem to be somewhere between 30 and 31 mpg. It's the same whether I'm driving round London at an average 10mph, or on the motorway with cruise on at 80.

Does anybody get a wider range of readings ?. Mine is a 3.0i manual, 53 plate.

Have you been checking based on the on-board computer or by working it out when you fill up?
I found the OBC was a big fat liar and told me it was 31 mpg when it was actually 26mpg over one tank of fuel!

The OBC is a lier!

I calculate mine on every tankful and the OBC tends to over-read by between 2-5mpg or so. But over the 6,000 or so miles I've done in my 3.0i I'm averaging 29.9999999999mpg approx. The engine's now on 26k miles so I'm not sure if it loosens up with age or not. Yesterday's 110mile drive was showing 39.8mpg on the OBC afterwards though - lots of 40mpg average speed camera sections of road :x

So if you have a better mpg they fine you!! :o :poke:

I only get around 200 miles from a full tank (16.5mpg), but my average mpg is currently 21.2.

Set the computer to all zeros when I started out for the performance center this past weekend. Did just over 500 miles, varied from speeds of 78 mph to stop and roll and drive around town looking for dinner. Sitting right on 30.9 mpg (US)

200 miles??? Sweet Jesus, are you flooring it everywhere??? :driving:

I get probably 270-300 miles to the tank. Fair bit is stop/start on motorway though.

I've owned my 2003 Z4 3.0 for over 6 months now and 90% around town (SE London) averaging around 24-26mpg.... If i drive with no regard to fuel around time i won't get much lower that 21mpg if traffics not stupid..

When i do get on a A road or motorway i can averahe 30-38mph at 50-80mph no probs..

I only ever use Shell Optimax this is all form the On board computer. And as far as some ruff calulations it only reads 1.5mpg over.. maybe bit more.

It all town driving! I never go on the motorway and the closest thing I get to a motor is one A road (A40) and i'm only on that for a little bit. It's all short distance driving (max 10 miles). All these contribute to having a crappy mpg.

I do floor it sometimes, but normal amounts... nothing too crazy (I think :? ).

on the upside... I mainly use the car on the weekend, so I only fill up every 2 weeks or so. So I'm not too fussed.

EDIT: It's probably a little more than 200, but I never let it go past the 1/4 mark, so never really know.
