Hi,

This is my first post on this forum and I'm now the proud owner of a black Z4, 30i :D.
I done some research on the car first before the purchase and seen that it averaged out at 34 MPG (combined), well, it's doing no where near that. I have it in D mode (it's an auto) and driven it like I was driving Miss Daisy and it averages out between 24-27 MPG.

Is this considered "normal" for this car? It's the 3L Straight 6 version (260bhp).

Was just a little shocked at how thirsty this car is.

Thanks.

John.

I have an 3.0 Sdrive Auto and last weekend (in awful weather conditions) I covered 700 miles, mainly on Mway/trunk roads and averaged 34 mpg. Average speed over the trip was 50 mph.

61 plate.

Terrain included M5, M4 and Brecon Beacons.

Ahh, OK. So, this seems around average (will be higher on moterways ect) as I was doing mainly city driving.

Thanks.

John

Is this the same engine as in my 2008 3.0si - 6 cylinder 265 bhp - if so it is very susceptible to driving style and technique.
I initially was shocked at 22 23mpg but as I've got to know the engine it has returned more - but it takes effort and determination - as soon as you dip into that performance the mpg starts to count down. Worth it though!

Firstly the figures quoted by manufactures these days are not real world driving figure. They get these from tests in a wind tunnel with 1l of fuel in the tank and a driver weighing no more than 68kg. I'm currently getting 32.4mpg (35is) which has been a mix of A roads and city driving. On the A roads I average 43mpg and then town can be a killer but not as bad as some cars we own where we get around 9 to 12 mpg in town.

My 120i E88 always seemed to show 26.1 mpg and they claimed more than that for the car. I had a 2.0l FN2 Type R before that for 9k miles and got 34mpg on average and I didn't tend to hang around.

If you do mostly town driving then you should be look at the Urban quoted figures

Used to get around 30mpg (on a combined run) And slightly more when shifting manually using the paddles.
