MPG Comparison

I'm not sure I could condone that sort of driving. Over 40mpg in a 3 litre sports car?! You should be ashamed of yourself :P

Go and drive it properly. Anything over 30mpg and you're not trying hard enough

Right so today ive been driving properly as people say i should haha. Great drive up thorugh the mountains of south wales. Mainly 3rd and 4th gear. Half way we had a bit of traffic and had around 28/29mpg.

Second half managed a bit more speed and it dropped into the 27s.

This was more semi fast gt driving rather than flat out racing so would be good to see some track day mpg figures if anyone has any.

When I had the E30 M3 people were constantly asking "what mpg do you get?" I replied WGAF!" It's a drivers car! :driving:

She [my Z4-2.05] is similar, but I must admit that last weekend, on a trip to W-S-M, I managed 41.1mpg :) ........ following my sons [diesel  ] people carrier.

Otherwise who knows, or cares? I don't. :driving: :driving: :driving:

Yeah people say how do you afford to run it. I say i pay for fuel it runs out i put more in. Easy haha

Went to Gaydon BMW day today and averaged 39 MPG, at 75ish MPH on the M40. I drive my Z at a more leisurely pace, I like the easy, lazy power delivery and the exhaust note, I don't tend to hoon around in it. My Toyota MR2 is the hooligan and I drive that harder and take it to the limiter lots more times, it's more go cart like to drive.

"75ish MPH on the M40"

update for the internet police - please remember that speedos are notoriously inaccurate and generally over read :)

:driving:

Must admit, it was fairly close to what my satnav was showing so stand by the 75ish, there were plenty hooning past us and some must have been pushing towards licence loosing territory, so lots for the Police to play with. We had a run back on A roads and had a few hot Ford boys pushing for a race, but I can't be arsed when in cruise mode.

The Pits
Sorry, I don't have cruise control on my car I meant if I'm in cruise mode, so's the car.
What about your S A C :poke:

Yawn, caught at 86mph on a DC - FFS

Waste of time for me, but better than 3 points.

Some need it, those who exceed 30 / 40 for instance, but me, on a 70mph DC, WTF - don't start me off on one :headbang:

I checked my OBC reading today and happily I got 1mpg more in reality than it was showing. :-)

PS: The SAC is better suited to people who aren't into driving, if you are you probably know what they'll tell you. I took the wind out of my instructor's sails when I correctly guessed within a couple of mph how fast you'd still be going at a given point for going Xmph faster. He said how do I know, I said educated guess. Apparently everyone normally thinks it's simply the extra speed you were going at the point you would have stopped. Clearly everyone else didn't listen in what would have been covered in compulsory physics where energy is inversely proportional to speed. Then they tried to tell me I should drive at 30mph in 3rd and 4th at 40mph for the most economical results. I said BS, top at 30mph is fine on the flat and the trip computer consumption literally drops in front of your eyes. Final straw was bringing out the videos from the 80s where the car skids and hits a boy etc. They said what would you recommend to this driver, I said ABS. He said they wouldn't have stopped any faster. I said what you mean is ABS doesn't make you stop faster, but this car locked up very early on and most definitely would have stopped faster with ABS! The point of the course is spot on but the delivery was a joke.

Never been on SAC so can't comment on the actual days events, but I know (BAD :poke: :P ) drivers who have had to attend and most say they have learnt from the course.
I was in the fire service for 25 years and was taught to drive fire engines (advanced HGV) at speed and safely. I'm amazed at some of the driving skills I see on the roads, some drivers really think they are brilliant, yet make some really basic errors.
I still occasionally drive a lorry and it always amazes me when you see drivers pulling in front of trucks at junctions and then standing on the brakes... as physics will tell you, 44 tons of truck won't stop anywhere near as fast as a car.

Quite. This morning it was a bald chap in a shiny MGB with V8 mud flaps doing that. He was brisk but not a match for the Coupe.

I got caught doing 47mph in a 40 which is a clear dual carriageway with a central reservation in a hire van whilst moving. I believe at 46 they let you go...

I have notice a lot of roads have been wrecked with lower speed limits, Oxfordshire county council are prime culprits. They have reduced so many national speed limit roads down to 40 or even 30 for no obvious reasons...apart from making money from drivers.
I totally get speed limits in built up areas or dangerous roads, but not in the middle of nowhere or on dual carriageways.

So I did almost 400 miles today and averaged 41mpg. Had I not gotten stuck in a standstill on the M42 I think I could have achieved 500 miles to the tank .. Has anyone achieved this?

I asked about the 500 miles to a tank a while ago......

Once i had done 241 miles( Edinburgh to home) and range was at 240 miles.... thats the best i had seen from 3.0 coupe.
