MPG Comparison

So today i drove from bury st edmunds in suffolk to newport in south wales. Sunday im doing the south wales forum meet through the brecon beacons. I thought id compare my MPG on these very diffrent trips. Theres obviously going to be a diffrence but i thought it would be good to compare. The pictures are taken in the services then at home not driving.

So today i was aiming for around 45/46 MPG. The traffic on the m4 at swindon and bristol totally ruined my average but i was doing 45.5 for most of the journey until traffic.

I found sitting at 68ish and never straying kept it best. If i went slower it dropped or faster it dropped. Took allot of mirror work to get all overtakes smooth without having to accelerate or brake.

By the time id got home because of the traffic it had dropped.

Still quite happy with 42.

After sundays meet il post the results and see how much it can vary. Should show how flexible this engine is being able to cruise so well and obviously get the hammer down too.

You've got more patience than me.

I was getting 37mpg on my way home after I bought the car at about 70-75mph.

I'll be interested to see what you get on a spirited drive.

Have you ever calibrated it by measuring on fill ups? My old e46 330Ci used to be about 1mpg short on the computer but our current e91 tends to get 1mpg more than it reads.

Impressive, I thought I was good at getting high mpg but the highest I've got on a journey is 42mpg in my 3.0si not bothered measuring my average for ages now.

mine shows a constant 28mpg, but its 8 mile trips on 40-50 roads.

if i reset it once engine warm its better but that a rare ocasion

It's the pedal on the right you're looking for. :driving:

Scratch that. I see you're a Coo Pee driver. Explains it all! :poke:

Oh i know where that right pedal is. Not really sensible on a 225 mile drive on managed motorways. Will be interesting to see it after sundays drive.

I went for a drive sunday around the norfolk broads and got 28. That was hard driving on little twistly lanes. The beacons are a bit more open and sweeping. Im always happy to get over 40 in the 3.0si though.

No calibration yet. Im sure the trip is better at maths than me so I trust it.

Well if you can be bothered take the number of litres you fill up by then multiply it by 0.22 which will give you gallons. Then simply take the trip meter reading for that tankful and divide it by the gallons number. Hey presto.

Good tip.

The best i have got from my 3.0 auto is about 44 mpg on the M40 when 1st picked up. For most A and B road driving, it sits around 34 to 36 mpg, so not bad for such a big engine.

Thats good going. I need to get cruise control and aim for 50 mpg.

My 3.0si is averaging around 27 mpg but I'm driving it hard. The best I got on a mway run was about 39 mpg but you have set a challenge - I will try the 68 mph softly softly approach and see if I can get into the 40's

You have to be so strict with yourself. Never accelerate haha. Thats why the traffic killed it and dropped to 42. Of course the coupe is the true drivers car with better aero sooooo :poke:
