Its totally possible to get 40 MPG out of the 3.0, but I find only with cruise control and it set at 60mph , prior fitting cruise control i could only get 350 miles to a tank. The cruise control can manipulate the throttle in a tiny increments that your right foot has trouble doing especially when it is made of lead.
I have been lots of journeys between solihull and sheffield basically 100 mile trip a few times a week, I can take the A class 1.6 and look like noddy or I can take the Z4 and reduce speed slightly to get similar economy
