MP4 video

Hey peeps, I’m currently using a mix of blue tooth connectivity (external bt adapter), hdd rips, iPhone via the y adapter, and usb stick for music. I can play music videos from the dvd player ok, however mp4 files only play as music. Any way to get them to play from a usb stick?

I had an old y adapter for the iPod so I’m going to put some mp4s on that to see if they play from the iPod but ideally want them to play from the usb drive in the centre console ( I have a usb connector and 3.5 jack, however the usb adapter does not recognise my iPhone 14 at all.
Input welcome

When you say centre console do you mean the arm rest…?

The USB in the armrest should see an iPhone as an iPod..

The usb under the arm rest sees the iPhone 3 as an iPod using the y cable (it’s an old cable) and the Apple cable that connects to the iPhone 14 does nothing but charge albeit slowly. Maybe a newer y cable would work, however the question is how to get the usb to read mp4 files and play the video. 😉

USB only reads audio files …in this implementation

Have you got an older iPhone …5 through 9…with a lightning connector to the USB it should read the iPhone as an iPod…assuming you have music set up ready to run on the phone..

It should read mp3 / WMA files on a usb stick also..

Have you revised the connectivity s/w to the final version?

As B21 says it won't play video files.
If you had the MEDIA version iphone Snap-In dock then it either would or could work through that, but you'd still need to code out Video In Motion, which stops you watching video while driving.
You can play video via the Mr12volt box.

Now the warning, knowing that it can be distracting, I deliberately played videos while driving. Even though I was fully aware of the possibility I was still distracted by it! So, personally, I highly recommend against it.

Ah, thanks guys.. I have the media snapin for the iPhone 5, which I ask have albeit the battery is dead. I’ve already coded video in motion so that’s sorted. I’ll change the battery on the iPhone and try that out..
Mr 12 volts is on my list although recent issues played out here do put me off a little as I won’t be able to work on the car easily over in Spain if I have any issues…

I had the media snap in, I never tried videos from it but doubt that it will work..happy to be proved wrong…

Please be aware though guys, this is old tech by today's standards, don't expect pin sharp great quality.

Oh and it has to be a Media cradle. Do you have Media as your top left button on the iDrive controller? Or is it just CD?

Geeks-ville…

My 2011 35is had the CD logo on the iDrive controller but had snap in Media support

My 2012 20i had the Media logo on the iDrive and had snap in Media support

AFAIK they functioned identically..both has their s/w revised to the last revision successfully.

Strange, as that is the point of the 'Media' system. Its supposed to be Bluetooth music and, if you had it fitted, the Media version cradle) there are two versions of the cradle, one with and one without.

Yes there are 3 cradles AFAIK…the ‘top’ one is the media version…it’s annotated as such on the click in unit..

It needs the ULF-SBX box of tricks to work …again AFAIK
