Motorway cables..??

The M1, as lots will know, is basically a continuous roadwork at the moment, and along the concrete central barriers there are purple plastic pipes carrying a bunch of cables in them clipped to the barrier tops. Does anyone know what these cables are for?

Just curious nothing more, thanks if anyone knows.

I believe they're the cables for the signs, etc. you see along the motorways. They used to run in the ground next to the hard shoulder but now they've been putting them on the central barriers to make them harder to steal.

I thought they were power and data for signs and all possibly the a average speed ANPR cameras ?

On a different note a 2mile section in the roadworks around woodall services m1 Sheffield chesterfield, had the concrete central reservation for some time , roadworks due to end anytime , so they knock down this section an are redoing the work, I can only think it's failed a strength test, hope the builder is footing the bill , an its just more tax to pay

I thought that they were so that little ghosts could travel down them without getting run over in the traffic. (Thats what I told Mrs Five). :D

On the sections that are complete the purple pipe that sit on to of the barrier does get removed, although there will be one of somebody's trainers
