Motor Legal Protection

Just wondering if anybody has any experience of using an external motor legal protection company rather than the one you get offered at a ludicrous price with your regular car insurance. Now I have two cars I'll be paying near on £50-60 for legal protection and I've been looking at a few others such as https://www.driverguardian.com/motorlegalprotectionplus/ and https://www.bestpricefs.co.uk/motor-legal-protection

Any thoughts?

I posted about this a while ago and there didnt seem to be much knowledge around.
In the end I went with MEM online and off the top of my head for our 4 vehicles it was cheaper than it was for 1 through the insurance companies.
Dont know how good they are and wont find out until I need to use them but thats the same for any legal protection anyway.

Oh yeah, just found your previous post!

I think what I need to do is download the Key Facts document for the one I currently get with my car insurance and then do the same with a few of these specialist protection providers and see where the differences are, if any.

I insured my Z4 through the Z4 Forum provider (Chris Knott Insurance) in June and they won't do cover without it!

Wasn't too pleased as I had legal expenses with RAC - well I did until renewal this month as RAC no longer provide it.

So that turned out to be a blessing in disguise! :D

Well, after spending Friday night looking through all of this (the Rock and Roll lifestyle I lead!!) I have come to the conclusion that they are just the same as the ones you purchase with your car insurance. I.e you get £100,000 legal cover, personal injury cover, recovery of uninsured losses, prosecution defence etc. Although you just have to make sure the defence is included as with the https://www.bestpricefs.co.uk/motor-legal-protection one you have to get Silver cover to get that protection.

So, I think I'm going to go for the https://www.driverguardian.com/motorlegalprotectionplus/ one for £15 to cover any number of vehicles I own.

Currently with the two cars I own I'm paying £27.50 each. So by getting the legal protection independently I'll save £40 a year. :D

Thanks for doing the research as I still needed to do that.

Only disappointment was that when I tried to invoke the legal insurance for my mother in laws car who was hit in a car park with witnesses and so on, because the other insurance company was dragging their feed and after 6 months no solution.

The legal insurance would not help as they said that the other insurance company had not denied anything, they were just not paying up.

Tbh, you never really know how good any of these insurance company's of legal protection company's are until you need to use them! The problem as well, with all of these is that they need a 51% chance of winning the case before they'll take it on anyway.
