MOT M Wheel Question

Hi - ive never taken a car for an MOT so forgive me if its silly in advance....

i have a question regarding MOT - I have E86 Si and have put the style 224 M wheels with standard M conti tyres on it (45/40) on it.
Can i take it for its MOT with those wheels on it?

the 224's have loads of tread but the rears seem huge compared to my mv2's....maybe stick out by 1-2mm. The tyres on the MV2 rears look a little worn on the inside of the tyre....

I dont want to jack it up, swap the wheels over then have them fail it and make me buy a new tyre only for me to get home, and change the wheels over...

thanks!

(here are some pics....IMO these wheels should have come standard and the M should have come with CSL's!!)

I'm sure others run this set up ok.

However, IIRC you can fail AB MOT if the wheels protrude beyond the body of the car

As Adam says, you can indeed fail an MOT for wheels protruding from the bodywork, but I highly doubt it would - most examiners won't bother.

yes the wheels and tyres should be flush with the furthest overhanging part of the bodywork. You could always put a couple of those smal stick on rubber arch extensions if you're not too comfy with it as it is and take them off later.

Mine too! but i remember that forum last week about the smurf's on the rear bumper...can't imagine how many corsa's there would be with tractor tyres fitted if this were the case

My car has passed its MOT with the same arrangement on a roadster. They didn't mention it.
The rear tyres are only just visible when looking from directly above the wheel arch.

Mine went through MOT with this set up (and M tyres with wrong profile too  ) - I also asked a fellow forumite who is an MOT tester (sorry can't recall his name, and he said it was OK)

I have the M wheels and have passed the MOT with them twice.

75% of the width of the wheel has to have 1.6mm or more of tread to a pass an MOT.

FYI took it to bmw for the MOT and they didnt even mention it!! whats more they quoted me £50 a wheel to refurb them inc VAT!!

Good to hear there were no issues

Did you say BMW offered £50 a corner for wheel refurb :o
