Mot garage said my reg plate is illegal

I've had many 'off road' plates done and just by glancing at your rear I'd think it's illegally spaced. Characters and spacing between characters look right to me, it's the vertical edges to the first and last characters that look less than 11mm.

Having "illegally' spaced letters and numbers must be increasing your road toll dramatically. :fuelfire: You will get done here for having a plate not issued by the Dept of Transport, or altered in any way, but thank god our state government has had the wisdom not to implement MOT's. A number of states have them.....road toll's the same.

My Zed failed at the dealership last year as the pressed metal plates I had on her didn’t have the BS standard marking or the makers details and post code. They phoned me to ask if I had another set of plates which I did as I’d bought the car from them previously and they fitted them for it to pass. It wasn’t until I checked the MOT history on-line months later did I discover they’d recorded a failure prior to fitting the “legal” set of plates. :x

cant see the name of the manufacture and the BS kitemark or whatever it is that is supposed to be on the plates?

It's also a 13 month old post that was bumped by a new poster...so has either passed, or the plate has been fixed by now :P

Anyway, I'd say it's because 3d/4d plates (the ones with stuck-on acrylic raised letter) are not legal, and the spacing around the sides of the rear plate is not >11mm.

Here’s a recent article from Surrey Police
Can't help but think of the age old phrase "haven't the Police got better things to do?"

£100 a pop fines are a good little revenue earner, though, I suppose.

The Government make good money from selling 'personalised' reg numbers and then fine you if you display them as they were sold to be. :x

I don't believe the ANPRs not being able to read them rubbish either. I have been stopped many times over the years for "miss-spaced" reg plates. All were before ANPRs were invented. And if it is the case the ANPRs should be better!

Rant over :D
