MOT failure

Looking at a car that had two consecutive year failed mot’s for the following.
Engine MIL inoperative or indicates a malfunction (8.2.1.2 (h))
Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits (8.2.1.2 (b))
Exhaust Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (8.2.1.2 (c))

Assume each year this was effectively repaired to then pass. Is this likely to return and what’s likely caused it?

Get the codes read.

Then get the sensors causing the issues replaced or whatever is causing the failures fixed.

Two MOT's to get something looked at! :headbang:

Which engine is it?

I think you misunderstood my question.
It’s not my car.
It’s a car I am looking to buy and the mot history has revealed this. The car subsequently passed each time after failing for the above.
I am looking for advice on what may have caused it and whether to steer clear or not.
Thanks

Get a code reader on it and that'll tell you which sensors are at fault.

If they refuse you plugging in a code reader then walk away.

By the sound of it it'll need a service too as it's maybe not been kept to the standard you'd like.

Also, search the forum for the MOT failures you've mentioned to give you an idea on what's caused the failures although you need the error codes!

Has it done much mileage between MOTs, and were they in the winter? It's possible that if it wasn't being used much it just needed a good old italian tune up both times.

Do you need to buy that actual car? Is it priced that attractively (and if so, why)?
Personally, I'd probably go find another...
