oh pants .... but nothing too bad.

2 new rear tyres which i expected anyway. and they recon the front drivers brake is seized as the pad is almost through on that side but not on the passenger side.

anyone had any experience of this and know where to get it recon'd or buy a new one?

going to need new discs and pads so time for a nice set of mtec i think.

I had similar last week, failed on the front drivers tyre.
Good shout by the MOT guy though, tyre had bulged on the inside sidewall, would never have seen it without going under the car.
Hate to imagine what would have happened if it had burst at speed.

Hope you get sorted out soon. always feels like I've lost a limb if I can't drive.

Why take a car that you know it's going to fail for an Mot,it sounds like you have been driving around in a death trap .
With the tyres in a worn state your insurance would not have coughed up if you had been in an accident .

I had the exact same issue with my MOT 3 weeks ago. I changed the discs, calipers & pads on both sides + new wear sensor. Got all of the parts (Pagid) from EuroCarParts as they had them in stock and cost £250 initially but you get £50 back when you return the old calipers. Seemed like a bargain to me.

Pictures of the work are in my progress thread - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65922&start=30

yeah real death trap .... roofs hanging off and screens got a crack and the exhaust was dragging till i tie wrapped it on.... 3 or 4 of the bigguns and jobs a goodun. and there is a strange smell a bit like its on fire but hey it works and goes and what the f**k i can always use someone else' car to stop on :headbang:

i don't need to explain myself to you on a fail that was on two things one of which the tester said i wouldnt have noticed in the car driving and some tires that i had already arranged to get fixed and were at 1.5mm

thanks gedo nice link, ill probably do the same new discs/pads all round and new front calipers.... on the mtec site already....sorted the tires out this afternoon by going down to the part worn place and lashing a couple of 20 quid wanleees :poke:

Hope they're not Crossply's

ha ha...

unfortunately lark speed doesn't have any 3.0 calipers in stock. but anyway, as much as it galls me to give it to a garage i just don't have the time to do this so mtec ordered and ill let them sort the caliper out and get one from wherever they need to :x

I notice that MTEC have 4 options for discs, grooved, drilled etc. Does anyone have any thoughts as to which disc type would be most suitable for a daily driver?

Also, won't the holes and grooves mean that the pads will wear out quicker?

Honestly ...
Mtec because they have a good rep from many independent sources. Only criticism I've heard was from JE and I think that was due to then not having a coating.

Dimpled and groves because I like the look. There are reasons for them to do with heat dissipation and gas dissipation but frankly it's just cos unlike the look in this case.

Ironically on my Westfield I have 4 pots with solid non groved/drilled discs but they are there for the performance not the looks :)

Also, low mass = less energy to dissipate = less heat. I have vented discs on my Westy (but not cross drilled) and IIRC Ford Sierra callipers. Never had a problem with heat dissipation and change the pads only once every century :D
