MOT fail ...

So the first MOT of ownership ... And it is a fail at the regular local village garage.

Maybe I've egged it up here, it was just the seal on the fuel cap which beached her :headbang:

However I was a little surprised, firstly that they'd noticed very early signs of rubber perishing on the underside of the cap and secondly that it had even got this way on a 5-6 year old low mileage car!

Has anyone else checked their caps recently or had such a problem? Of course an easy fix, £18 from the local dealer who were genuinely top notch by the way.
 
:cry: i chatted to my BM tech last week as he MOT'd mrs w's golf , very thorough going over i thought ( first time ive witnessed a full mot inspection) but went nowhere near the fuel cap :?

That's what I thought ... Fair enough it is their license and reputation but I actually thought they were joking at first. It was was early perishing of the rubber too ... Seal in tact, internal ring of it still integral etc :tumbleweed:

That's the one, and I had no quibbles with them, although it wasn't exactly knackered the rubber seal was starting to crack on the periphery. Just mainly found it a bit odd for it to deteriorate already ... I went out and checked my 12 year old 206 gti (had for years and can't part with it ) and the seals looked brand new and that they aren't. Lol
