MOT Fail on corroded rear brake lines - Anyone else?

just failed the mot on this...raging

Why 'raging', aside perhaps inconvenience of having to fix something and a retest?

I'd much rather fail an mot for corroded brakes than find out when I need them in an emergency that the pipe let's go.

Because i'd got a service the other weekend to catch things like this...who can't do this work to get it right either, can't get the Z4 on the ramp.
it's not the same in N.Ireland as it is on the mainland, the mot isn't done in garages etc, it's government run test centres that work like a drive through.

BMW Dealers have just quoted me 12hrs labour (£65ph) and £100 in parts + vat :headbang:

Fair comment if you'd just had a service and expected them to look at this sort of thing and they either missed it or didn't bother...

I know the MOT's are different in Ireland. I'm working near Dublin and they have a much harsher system of state owned centres and from what folks say a real task to just get cars booked in.

£140+ vat from my local indie
Said it's bit like the 3series which needs fuel tank needs dropped and bavarian(the bmw dealers) remove it completely hence the mad cost, but on z4 it's grand it's not a bad job he's done a load of them

Aye that's what i'm trying to do now, book a retest, down south is worse though in fairness, In the republic at one stage about 8 years ago because of strikes and such learners were allowed to drive by themselves on provisional licenses without taking a test...

You can go around the fuel tank if you wanted to have a pop yourself. Have done this a couple of times on the E36 which i expect is very similar. Just got the pipes made up from a local motor factors in copper, fitted braided lines at the same time, and ran new pipe from where the front to rear t's off. You do need to either remove prop and exhaust or work your way around it with some flexible hands etc. Either way i have never had issues in going around the tank to save time/effort

Left the car off at 9am, picked it up at 1pm even worked out cheaper only cost £120 including vat compared to £1350 the dealer quoted me

got a mind to stick in a complaint
