Theres a a car I know that failed its MOT on among other thins an excessively noisy exhaust - a major 8.1.1.a
It has been re tested at another station and it has past with the same 8.1.1.a - this time Advisory

Im puzzled.

I asked my local independent about noise as I’ve had a straight through conversion.

There is (obviously) the law on noise, but he said less than 10% of garages actually have a decibel meter to read the noise volume, so most do it on human judgement.

I suspect, unless it’s silly loud, it would have passed without advisory at the second station if you’d taken it there first, but as they first station had already mentioned it, the second station needed to include it as an advisory when they passed it.

Whenever I see white hair / bald head in open topped car i always remark about the old fart in the sports car!

In this case tho, it’s an old Nissan 350z chav mobile that visits a neighbour and leaves for home on a Monday morning in the early hours and being a lazy old retired git, wakes me up from the much needed beauty sleep. :D

Why would they need to include as an advisory?

By the way, if anyone is concerned about an mot noise failure / advisory, and I admit it would annoy me, buy some Stainless Steel wool and shove it up the exhaust - it works perfectly, it's turned mean Steve into whispering Ted Lowe, I am informed it will burn through after a while (days / weeks) and return to nomal.

It need to be s/s not ordinary Steel as it will get hot and spit and spark like Flash Gordons space ship I used to see at the saturday morning kids cinema - blimey I'm old..
