MOT + banging?

Car just passed it’s MOT. 2004. Yay.
One thing I wanted to share, the MOT place charged £40. It isn’t some backstreet place, and the workmanship is generally good. A better price that the standard charge.

One aside question: Is it normal for the inspector to bang on the underside of the car with a metal stick (happened to another car in my family last year)? I can imagine they need to test the integrity of panels and parts, but that? Anyhow, it was a different inspector who did mine today. Yay again. I can now buy the road tax which is also due :P

I thought they where allowed to tap the underside, but thought also it was a hard plastic hammer they used .....I may be wrong

I hate it when they start wacking underneath my 27 year old vw golf with a hammer, boils my blood. Mot's are a horrid experience for me as I alway feel like an expecting father, pacing up and down :slaphead:

Is it a plastic / rubber hammer? Or a metal one :o ?

I would imagine it should be a plastic one, not some metal thing right?

It had better not be a metal hammer or am placing it where sun do'nt shine this friday when its the zed's turn for an MOT :guns:

Metal hammer? That is one way of making sure you would have rust the following year!

And I am with you tabbie, my Golf Clipper is turning 20 next year. Not bad with 32k miles :D

Old golf clipper retro cool and 32k is extremely low mileage

no way are they allowed to bang the underneath with a metal bar.... i Always sit and hawk these guys like a stalker when my MOT is due and they lever against bushes ect ect to check for excessive play but never have they tapped the car, mine is exceptionally clean so maybe they dont bother??? BUT if they did id be concerned and would stop that happening immediately.... every MOT for me is basically me paying BMW for the techs to talk to me for an hour... they usually do 10 min of checks and then spent the rest of the time asking question about her :-)

i always panick when it comes to the emission test however ....

I have the joys of this to look forward to next week, here's hoping another clean bill of health.
