MOT and Lighting?

Hi all,

My z4 is booked in for an MOT on monday 10th August- 2 Things suddenly crossed my mind.... The front foglamps both have water ingress, to be honest I've never even tried to turn them on so it's never bothered me. Secondly, the rear third brake light is cracked (as is usual), but still works perfectly with all LED's working.

So my question is, will either of those two items be a potential MOT fail?

Any help/advice would be appreciated...

Regards
Eddy

The third brake light I would think would be fine, and the front fog lights aren't mandatory so therefore they are not part of the MOT

If the front fogs are factory fitted, they come under the rules. A cracked lens would be a minor, inop is a fail, not so sure on water ingress. Possibly a fail if it affects beam pattern, an advisory if not?

There's no mention of front fog lights in the online MOT testers manual I looked at, so I'd agree that it shouldn't be an issue.

I asked two friends, both of whom are MOT testers, and both gave the same answer.

And in the CURRENT testing manual..

Fogs ARE mentioned, albeit only for newer cars.

I also stand corrected, although from reading that, testing of front fog lights won't apply to any cars for another 2 1/2 years.

Thats interesting I have literally just come back from the MOT station (pass with no advisories!!!) and had the front fog lights tested on my car. I mentioned to the tester that they had never been tested before and I remember him saying that it was part of the new testing regime. So presumably he was wrong as the guide clearly states, cars first used from 2018. I wonder if there is any wriggle room for the tester, perhaps they routinely check them all and would in the event of a failure only issue an advisory for pre 2018 cars.
