MOT Advisories - Corrosion

MX5 in for the same, WAS an MOT advisory, but again this doesn’t necessarily mean you should walk away from a car with a solid floor, body etc.

Neither vehicle had the budget for a full component strip down but done correctly you can stave off further corrosion for many years

So the point being Lammy don’t necessarily be put off from the right car if the body and floor is sound as there will be different levels of corrosion on all but garaged well looked after cars or concourse cars.

Morning All, just an update on the two cars I had in mind - - I didn't go and have a look at the one with all the advisories as in the end felt like it could potentially be costly further down the line. I did look at the second car, the bodywork condition was fantastic but it was a 2.2 with a really droney modified exhaust, and it felt like 50% of the engines power was going into creating noise rathe than acceleration so it wasn't the car for me, also made me feel like a 2.2 would not have enough power for me. Thanks for all your input guys, back on the hunt, wish me luck!

Take your time, the right car will come along eventually. May I suggest you buy a model-specific code reader for the Z4 so you can scan for codes?

Hah, what a coincidence! I've just bought this car (the one the OP mentioned), and it's actually fine (especially as I'm doing the work myself). It's pretty much surface rust

Good that the car is OK (I wouldn't have the knowledge to know one way or the other, so had to give it a miss!) I ended up buying Wayo11's 'Project Spa' car which I love. I'm guessing from your nickname that your based in Bath, I'm also near Bath so hope to see you driving around soon.

Yes, I'm in central Bath! Makes parking a pain as I already have 2 cars so used up all my permits :D

The car is great, with every invoice from the past 15 years. I wanted a project car, so this is perfect for the price

All 20 yr old cars will have some corrosion, if it’s lived outside all the time close to salt air it may be quite bad. Generally Z4 bodies dont corrode badly, springs, shocks, brake pipes are replaceable, but if a tester gives an advisory on body or subframes it needs checking out.
